1983 Mercedes-Benz W123 300TD Estate Wagon. Mercedes’ very robust 3.0 liter OHC 5-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine paired with an automatic transmission. Finished in a fantastic color combination ofForest Greenpaint (922 H), which has been refreshed in a brighter shade overPalominoMB Tex interior.
Original equipment includes: 4-speed automatic transmission, power steering, cruise control, central locking system, climate control, electric windows, fully independent suspension, power assisted four wheel disc brakes, light alloyBundtwheels, Sony XM radio, automatic antenna with selective height adjustment, 2-speed windshield wipers with 5-second interval mist control, electrically heated rear window with windshield wiper and washer, fully adjustable front bucket seats, front center folding arm rest, folding rear seat divided 2/3L – 1/3R, electrically operated right outside mirror, halogen head lamps, halogen fog lamps, tachometer, luggage rack with chrome roof rails.Additionally, this wagon is equipped with factory optional equipment including: sliding sun roof.
This wagon starts right away with the turn of the key and does not produce any smoke. The engine was replaced with a rebuilt unit approximately 100k miles ago and sounds healthy with very little blow-by, and no leaks. The turbo spools up nicely, delivering plenty of power. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears. The brakes feel firm and secure. The suspension and steering feel solid and the ride height is correct, without any sagging in the rear Self-Leveling Suspension (SLS). This wagon has just received a fresh oil and filter change, and primary and secondary diesel filter replacements.
The inside is clean, without any odors. Some of the plastic interior pieces are showing their age, which can only be expected. The electric windows will need new motors/regulators, which is a common repair item. The central locks must be manually operated from the inside, which is likely due to a leaking vacuum pump and is also responsible for the ignition shut-off.The climate control with defrost works properly, but the air conditioning does not blow cold. The radio power antenna mast is missing as is the trim piece for the interior of the hatch. All of the gauges within the instrument cluster are reading correctly and all are within normal parameters, with the exception of the tachometer which is not reading.
This wagon was used by one family for several decades of long-distance trips between Canada and Florida. It had to be reliable, so all of the important services have routinely been carried out.The body shows some evidence of rust repair in spots mainly around the water drainage ports, which are common areas for corrosion to form on these W123’s. All four tires have plenty of tread.Comes with a clean Montreal, Canada title, which I will convert into a Florida title for easy State-side registration for the new owner. This is an iconic Mercedes W123 wagon finished in an unusual and stunning color combination that is an absolute blast-from-the-past to hit the town in!
