Price: US $28,500.00
Description:

1954 Willys M 38 A 1

TheM38A1 (also known as G-758) wasa highly refined and a redesign for military use in early 50's. Thepredecessor to this mode, the MB and M38 military jeeps werelacking in power and performance required for the armaments andbattlefield conditions of 1950's. Hence the more powerful F-headengine was introduced to allow this vehicle to handle the increasedpayload specification. Off-roadperformance of the Jeep was improved by installing larger 7.00-16tires, providing greater ground clearance, and the improvedtransmission, allowing easier shifting under adverse conditions.

Thebeneficiary of a thorough, frame-off restoration that was completedin 2019, This Willys Jeep underwent a true“Restoration”. Not a “Representation” (which is easilyattained by painting, rebuilding and marking a war jeep to look likeone driven on the beach of Normandy, even if the jeep never leftNorth America), but a 'no expense spared' and highly detailed true“Restoration”.

Itis one of finest examples of a MilitaryJeep depicting originality as the day it left the factory in Januaryof 1954. A set of Military decals are available and will convey withthe sale. They have not been applied as many collectors have mixedfeelings about these. hence left to the new owner to decide.

The3 year frame off “nuts and bolts” restoration was completed in2019 by a dear friend and a master on the M38A1 jeeps. I acquiredthis piece of history from him in 2019 and since has been stored onjacks in my climate controlled garage . Occasionally it is taken toshows and gatherings on a trailer.

Theprimary parts and systems, including drive train and power plant wereprofessionally rebuilt. Motor, transmission, and transfer case wererebuilt with all new bearings and seals. Front and rear axles anddrive shafts were rebuilt.

TheBody, fenders, hood and windshield were all sandblasted and painted.

Athorough assessment of the frame and parts was meticulouslyperformed. With a lot of time spent on research and stud, asurplus 1953 M38A1 was used as a model and an Ord-9 Manual was usedto determine the factory and period correct parts which would beneeded to complete this full frame off project.

Theparts were then sourced from Ebay, other jeep collectors and wheneverpossible from N.O.S. vendors. Everynut, bolt and washer are per specification and was inspected, cleaned, and painted. The empty packaging of the several NOS partsused in the restoration are available and will convey with the saleto validate the authenticity.

Thismotor is one of the best rebuilds I have seen—front to back, andsounds as though it has come off of the production line. The jeepitself is as correct and original and like it just rolled off thefactory on to a military base.
