1983 VW GTI Texas NO RUST Original MK1
1983 Volkswagen Rabbit
A few years back... I bought and unfortunately sold a 2004 VW R32. I then bought an S4, hen a 911while constantly searchingfor another R32. This MK1, uilt in November of 1982 came up in one of my searches for the R32 and it was soooo nice that as a collector I could not pass it up. Two weeks later, finally after several years found the correct R32 for my car collection and now have both... This car was delivered to Maine from Texas about two years ago and was pampered by both owners - garaged it's entire life and has never seen salt nor snow. Consequently, ou are looking at one very nice original 'hot hatch' GTI - maybe one of the finer original cars in the country. This car is 99.999% rust free; I would say it's 100% but I have not peeled apart door panels, tc. There is zero visible rust on this car, he undercarriage, tc. all look Texas original. There has been some minor touch up paint work here and there but essentially... the car has wonderful sheen & has somehow evaded the damage of sun and the environment. There are a few dings, ut nothing that doesn't add some patina to this car. I have been contemplating keeping the car and giving it a stripped down re-spray but now feel that it should stay original, t least under my guardianship. I added a new, intage looking Yakima rack which brings it right back to '83. Mechanically, t could use some new shocks & the radiator fan comes on once in a while in a situation where it should not. My research concludes that it needs a radiator flush as the sensor to turn on the fan in these old GTI's becomes filled with sediment as it is located on the bottom of the radiator. After sitting for weeks on end, here is one drop of oil beneath the entire car. I would go as far as saying she is leak free. The doors close like a hand built German car, ll the seems are straight and according to the previous owner... the car has never been in any type of accident. The original wheels are in great shape, ne has a ding which can be pulled and the car sits on four new tires. Interior... stunning. Unbelievable that it is in such amazing shape and the pictures tell the tale. I have the original mats; only the original stereo is missing so I replaced all the speakers and the head unit with modern equipment (blue tooth, ands free phone, tc.) An original stereo can be purchased viaEBAY within a week or twoof searching. Engine pulls super strong, o noises... just an amazing engine. The mileage is unclear, ut the previous owner said the odometer broke years ago as they all break eventually. He believes the car has under 100k. I would, s a collector believe this to be true based on mechanical and cosmetic condition. EVERYTHING in the car works, very light, linker, C, tc. is working condition. The hood latch cable is brokenbut can be opened by pulling cable by hand. I have one drivers sidespare seat that Iam not including with the sale but will sell separately to the auction winner if wanted. I have had countless cars, any much more exotic than this but this little Vdub gets more attention than anything I have ever had. Good Luck, mail me with questions.
