Triumph Spitfire 6 (GT6 Convertible)
1976 Triumph Spitfire
The ultimate 1976 Spitfire 6. (how the factory should have built it)
I started with a rust free, accident free California car, that had only 42K miles and had been in storage since early 90s.The drive train was then replaced with a rebuiltGT6 engine increased to 2.5L and matched to a remanufacturedheavy duty transmission with J type overdrive. New 3 core radiator, GT6 suspension added with IRS suspension at the rear, vented brakes, window vents in the doors, Connelly leather interior. All rubber andchrome renewed, the car is essentially new.My dream car was built to be my last and final sports car, but health issues forces me to sell it after a 10 year build and only driving it 100 miles.
Engine: completely rebuilt to 2.5 L displacement using reground TR6 crank, new piston +20 andreground camshaft, new rod end bushings, new high flow oil pump, new lifters, new timing chain/sprocket, new hardened valves and seats( Unleaded gas specs), new rocker arms and shaft, radiator re-cored to 3 row for better cooling, new alternator, high torque starter
Exhaust: Complete new stainless steel
Ignition: Distributor replaced with Megajolt high voltage electronic with mag pickup for easy reliable starting
Transmission: remanufactured heavy duty 3-rail with J type overdrive ( internals from the Triumph Dolomite): custom ordered directly from Canley Classics in England.
Suspension: Koni shocks all around, Polybush A-arm bushings, new lower trunions, new tie rod ends, new ball joints, new stainless steel lugnuts on all wheels. Rear Suspension converted to GT6 IRS with new Metalatic Rotoflex couplings, all roller bearings replaced.
Brakes: Vented disks up front, EBC Green stuff pads, braided stainless steel brake hoses, all brake lines new, re-sleeved master cylinder, silicon brake fluid
Body: Rust free, accident free California car, with only 42K miles, that had been in storage since early 90s, stripped to bare metal and repainted to original color. GT6 bonnet top panel fitted to original Spitfire bonnet
Doors: GT6 window vents fitted to doors ( new vent surround rubbers! ), all new glass channel felt, window weatherstrip seals, and door seals.
All inner AND outer door handles brand new
Lighting: New taillight assemblies, new front turn signal lenses and rubbers, new side marker rubbers, new windshield and rubber
Bumpers: both rechromed
Tops: New Mohair convertible top, Factory hardtop
Interior: I ordered Connelly hides from England used to create interior. Seats: leather with new foam bottoms, Door pannels ( leather ), with map pockets, mounted on PVC pannels ( not cardboard ). Carpet: molded.
Dynamat sound deadening throughout.
The Spitfire 6 is a wonder to drive, hard to believe it is British.Quiet and rattle free, tons of torque, great brakes, a real head turner. I hope it finds a good home.
