1988 Pontiac Fiero
1988Fiero GT, 5-speed, T-top, Lumbar, Performance Stereo, 42K Miles
I have decided to sell my 1988 FieroGT. I purchased this car back in 2015 but just have not had time to enjoy it. Ihave other cars I tend to spend more time playing with, so I want to make someroom in the garage. If your viewing this you likely already know 1988 is theyear to own for many reasons.
Only6,849 GT’s produced in the final year which is a very small number in itself. Only3,799 were equipped with the 5-speed Getrag transmission. Just 614 total GT’s wereproduced wit t-tops. Throw in lumbar support and performance radio, you really can’task for a much better configuration. How many examples of 88’ GT’s still exist?
Interiorof the car shows very well. All the dash and trim is straight and true. Noevidence of the curled edges and warping that most experience as they age. Ithink some started deforming before they left the dealer lot. Cloth seats areclean and show extremely well with virtually no wear. Carpets are clean withonly the original drivers floor mat showing wear consistent with driving. Ihave a very nice set of aftermarket Fiero mats I kept over the originals andwill include with the car. Interior options include lumbar support, performancesound, and rear defrost. Power windows, mirrors and locks all work. Only flaw Isee in the whole interior is a black mark on the rear edge of the headliner.Looks like an old car phone install perhaps. Ash trays are clean and no signsof smoking or any other smells. Owners manual in the glove box along with wheellug key. One feature I have never seen on any Fiero are the remote lock/unlockkey fobs. They don’t work but I’m sure the batteries have been dead for years, perhaps decades, and would need replacing. Very nice interior!
Movingto the exterior, the paint shows well for its age. The rear wing has some wear throughon the corners as photographed. I believe this is from a car cover rubbingthose spots. Rear deck lid has some marks. Front of car shows marks from roaddebris such as rock chips, paint imperfections from bugs, and a couple small spotswith some spidering of the paint likely from rock impacts. I believe with aprofessional buffing most minor imperfections would disappear. Sides, top, andrear of car are excellent.
Taillights are in great shape. No delamination around PONTIAC lettering like manyyou see. Sail panels are clear with no cracks. All glass is nice. I found onerock chip in the windshield but no other damage. Dew wipes are in in goodshape. Tires have very little tread wear and look nearly new. Rims are all innice shape with no rash. Center caps showing some minor oxidation but could becleaned up or replaced.
Enginebay is clean and unmolested. Everything appears to be in stock configuration. Trunkis clean and shows very well. Retaining strap for t-tops is in place. Storage pouchesfor the t-tops like new. Rear vents are in good shape and black finish showswell.
Asyou can see the “frunkâ€, or front trunk, is clean and tidy. Spare is presentand appears unused. Looks pretty much the way it did in 1988.
Cardrives well. Brakes are solid and stops straight. Clutch performs well andtransmission shifts smoothly with no grinding or other issues.
Carcranks right up and runs but it does have a slight miss. I got busy and beforeI knew it the car had been sitting for over a year. So, I dropped the tank andemptied the old gas. While I was in there, I installed a new fuel pump withfilter for good measure. Went ahead and changed the external fuel filter, oilfilter and oil, air filter, and spark plugs. When I finally cranked it up ithas a slight miss. I’m going to order a new set of plug wires. Also could be asticking injector. To be honest, it probably needs to be taken out and drivenmore than anything. I’ll try to address this week.
Onlyother thing I can think of that needs addressing are the headlights. Workedfine the other day and then when raising for pictures I had to try a coupletimes to get them to come up. Probably need cleaning and adjustment. I’m not familiarwith the mechanicals but I’ll try to look at them this week as well.
Ican’t think of any other issues with the car. Its very nice and shows well forbeing 31 years old. With that being said, there are flaws consistent with itsage. I’ve tried to outline them above so please have realistic expectations.
Ihave a clear title in hand. $500 deposit due via Paypal within 24 hours.Remaining balance to be paid by cashiers check or cash within 7 days of theauction end. Car is located just outside Tellico Plains, TN. I’d be happy toshow the car to anyone interested. I have had many cars shipped to me andshipped many cars to others over the years. I’ll be happy to make the car availablefor pickup if using a shipper. Sorry if pictures aren’t the best but I’m notthe greatest photographer. If you’d like to see pictures of something specificlet me know and I’ll try to oblige.
I’dlike the car to find a good home and I’d like to make some room in my garage soI’m listing with no reserve. Car is for sale locally so I do reserve the rightto end auction early if sold locally.
Pleaselet me know if you have any questions and thanks for viewing my auction.
