SUPER RARE as 1987 was the only year of the W124 that the diesel was a TRUE 300TD Turbo Charged, meaning it was a 3.0L I6 cylinder turbo charged engine. The only year they were imported to the US even though they continued production in Europe. The other TD W124 cars imported were 2.5L 5 cylinder diesels.
This has been a Southern California car it's entire life and has NO RUST no odors and has not been smoked in. The car doesn't smoke, it idles smooth, is surprisingly quiet, starts right up with no issues. It was garaged for over 12 years and started being driven again over the last 8 years. Mileage is accurate according to Carfax.
The interior is what I would consider MINT condition with NO tears or rips in the leather or carpet. The dash has no major cracks just a tiny 1/2" hairline crack near the speaker (pictured). Around the gear selector there is top coat starting to crack on the walnut but it is not peeling. All gauges and switches work including: radio, antenna, power mirror, hazard, defrost, recirculate, wipers, washer, fan function and direction of air buttons, window switches (the only exception is the rear drivers window that needs a new regulator), front power seat and power headrest work, telescoping starring wheel, all interior and exterior lights, cruise, horn. The window tinting is original and looks good on all windows except tailgate window where it is bubbled. The AC has been recharged with R12 and is currently working but not as cold as I believe it should be and may have a leak which would prevent it from working longterm. The cargo area converts to make this a 7 seater wagon.
The exterior is original and in good condition, I would rate it an 8 of 10. The paint is its original dark blue and shines with a mirror like finish. There are a few chips which are pictured. Some clear coat near the window molding is starting to peel but not flaking and I can't get a good photo due to the paint being so shinny, it could be wet sanded but I think it adds to the patina. Other than that just a spot on the black window trim wear paint peeled (pictured).
Mechanically the car is a dream. After being garaged for 12 years it had the all fluids and filters changed, the engine looked at, SRS serviced and is working as it should (there is no back end sagging). Most recently, I had the drivers side tie rod replaced and passenger side tie rod end replaced along with new tires. I know of no other issues with this beauty. She drives, handles, and shifts smoothly and is a highway dream just floating along. I get close to 40mpg on the highway at normal 70mph speeds and around 37mpg when cruise is set at 90mph. The turbo kicks in at 2500 RPMS, I have never actually driven over 4000RPMS because there isn't a need even at 90mph she sits at a little below 3000RPMS.
I think this is one of the most reliable cars out there and would not hesitate to drive it cross country. As you know these engines can easily go 800K+ miles as long as they are taken care of in their life. No smog required in CA.
