Description:
1987 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 300TDT
This is the one you've been looking for - a very nice, daily driver, vintage, classic, rust-free and clean Mercedes Benz W124 chassis 300TDT turbo Diesel station wagon. If you know these, you probably already know that these were offered for only one year in the U.S. as wagons. And you may already know that the W124 is considered one of the greatest Mercedes Benz models to have ever been designed and built. They had a MSRP of $47,000 in 1987!This example is an excellent running and driving W124 Mercedes Benz 300TD Touring Wagon Turbo Diesel with only 158,200 miles on the odometer offered for auction with low reserve. It starts right up on the first turn of the key. Has no major oil leaks, no rips or tears in the upholstery, no cracks in the windshield, or dash, drives straight down the road, shifts perfectly and firmly, has new brake rotors and pads at all 4 corners. Just had a service completed with fuel, oil, and air filters with new starter and acc belt tensioner & roller. Engine mounts were replaced at 140k, and it is getting the AC compressor replaced-AC system already converted to R134a. Becker radio works, all lights and wipers work, power seats and windows all work, power head restraints and steering column & all door locks and latches function. Rear self-leveling system operates, but comes with spare accumulator. Rear hatch shocks are getting a little weak-still hold but sag some. The neutral safety switch needs adjusting-have to start the car in neutral. Some minor, "parking lot" dents and dings, and a scrape on the right side of the front bumper, which I will try to have buffed out, a scrape on the left rear bumper, but no rust anywhere!
Again, this 300TD has only 158,200-ish miles on the odometer (Carfax verified) and it runs and drives just like a Mercedes turbo Diesel wagon should with so few miles. It doesn't smoke at idle or under acceleration. The transmission shifts perfectly. The OM603 engine runs strong, pulls strong, idles smooth as glass and is just broken in at 158,000 miles. As you can see in the photos the paint shines up very nice and the interior has no rips and no horrific stains or cracks in the dashboard. Also has a binder full of service records included.
Hagerty puts average value of one of these at $9,200, with a low of $6,300 and a high of $23,000. Obviously this is not a Concours car, but with zero rust anywhere, no accidents, original paint, a few dings and small dents, and in great working condition it is not a "low" rated car either. And NADA Classic car values put these at a low of $6,000 with an average of $8,950 and a high of $14,550. It just had a new Bosch starter installed, as well as new brake pads and rotors at all 4 wheels. The serpentine belt tensioner, damper, and roller were all replaced recently too. The fuel, oil, and air filters are new and has 2 gallons of fresh Shell Rotella turbo Diesel oil filling the sump. It also comes with a bunch of spare parts. Pretty much everything works-even the power head restraints, all windows, the windshield washers (front and rear) power seats, sunroof, interior & exterior lights, and the power antenna.
These are super rare and becoming more rare every day. Last year a very clean example with 110,000 miles sold for $25,000 on Bring a Trailer.com. These are appreciating in value, and are nicer, more drivable, and more modern than the W123 chassis that preceded them. These were the last of the real, German, hand built Mercedes Benz turbo Diesel wagons. Now is your chance to get an affordable and incredibly solid classic that will last another 200,000 to 300,000 miles without too much trouble. Offered for sale as-is with no warranty expressed or implied. These also make good waste vegetable oil or biodiesel cars. Fly in and drive it back, or have it shipped. Either way I will hold the vehicle for a reasonable amount of time while travel or shipping plans are arranged. May be able to deliver within a reasonable distance for a fee-ask me.

I should add that there is a small "star" type rock-chip type blemish on the windshield and that there is a small dent in the passenger rear door lower portion. This dent could be easily taken out by a paintless dent professional, since there is no damage to the paint.
