1965 Jaguar Series 1 E-Type XKE Roadster RHD Gorgeous

I am pleased to offer this gorgeous 1965 Series 1 Jaguar E-Type Roadster. Car # is 1E1239. Lauded as “the most beautiful car ever made” by Enzo Ferrari, the Jaguar E-Type was derived from the 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning D-Type race car.

This particular E-Type was specially ordered new by a physician in Southern Wisconsin in 1964 through the Jaguar distributor, Mid-States Jaguar in Chicago, Illinois on April 29, 1965, and delivered on May 24, 1965 through P.J. Kaufman Co., Inc., in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The original owner, Dr. Jack Krieger, ordered the E-Type in a very specific manner, in one of the most desirable colors and specifications of the period. He also specified the car in right hand drive as a nod to its British heritage, and in miles per hour for the American roads.

Dr. Krieger had homes in Wisconsin and California, and the E-Type spent many of it’s early years in the Los Angeles area until the late 1980’s when it was sold to the second owner, another midwestern Jaguar enthusiast. The car was subsequently entrusted to the third owner in the 2000’s, who has kept it in its current state of preservation and mechanical upkeep, enjoying the car as a low -mileage driver/tourer for club events and road trips. Besides the startling originality and pedigree, one of the most important features of this E-Type is the is the astoundingly low original mileage of just over 39,000 from new.

The fact that this particular E-Type is, for the most part, an original and preserved car that has never been restored cannot be overstated. If you ask any automotive enthusiast, especially a Jaguar collector, they will tell you any car that has been taken apart and restored is never quite the same afterwards.

This mid-model Series 1 E-Type Roadster was originally finished from the factory in the specified shade of Opalescent Blue with red leather interior and a black soft top. It is now presented in Cream over the original red leather interior from the factory with black convertible soft top and retains the 4.2 liter inline six-cylinder engine paired with the matching number 4-speed manual transmission. The E-Type was also far ahead of its time featuring unitary construction, front disc brakes, rear inboard disc brakes, and an independent suspension.

This roadster version is a very original car. Having spent its first three decades under the stewardship of one family between Wisconsin and California, this E-Type was sold to another midwestern owner before finally joining the seller’s collection in the 2000’s.

Equipment includes a black convertible soft top, split chrome bumpers, glass headlight covers, dual exhaust outlets, and a set of 15” chrome wire wheels with two-eared knock-off spinners. A spare tire is included, and the wheels are dressed in a set of Avon tires measuring 185mm x 15?. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in the original and highly preserved red leather with matching door panels and carpets. Everything in the interior cabin is in original and unrestored condition, save for the floor mats, which were sourced from Engle Imports. Features include the original three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, a suite of Smiths instrumentation including a 160 MPH speedometer and 6k-RPM tachometer, roll-up windows, and toggle switches for various functions. All gauges and accessories are working properly.

Power comes from a triple SU carbureted 4.2 liter inline six-cylinder engine which drives the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. Standard features include an independent coil-spring rear suspension, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and a synchromesh gearbox. The larger of the two Series 1 engines offered, the 4.2-liter block was completely redesigned from Jaguar’s 3.8-liter, made longer to accommodate 5mm (0.20?) larger bores with a crankshaft modified to use newer bearings. As stated, this example’s engine is an extremely low mileage, well cared for and maintained example, having covered only 39,000 miles since new. Both the engine and transmission numbers match the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, as do the gearbox, body tag, and front frame member, photos of which are included in the description.

The body of the E-Type is in amazingly untouched condition, having never had any type of accident damage. All of the panels are dent and ripple free as the photos demonstrate.

The undercarriage is also in beautiful original condition, having no rot present in the floor pans and only minor age freckling on certain finishes. Because of the condition of the undercarriage, body, and mechanicals, this E-Type is the perfect candidate for a full restoration back to the original color of Opalescent Blue with the red interior or just keeping it as it is and enjoying the open driving experience of an original E-Type.

Everything included with the car from new will convey with the sale of the car, including the original tool kit, the brass knock-off hammer, the spare tire, and most important, all of the extensive documentation present in the photos, including the Jaguar New Car Order form, the Order Form letter from the distributor, Mid-States Jaguar, warranty card, window sticker, and the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. It is exceedingly rare to find any Jaguar with the documentation present with this E-Type.
