1969 Jaguar E-Type
1969 JAGUAR 4.2 L SERIES II E-TYPE FIXED HEAD COUPEThis original owner 1969 Jaguar 4.2 L Series II E-type FHC began its road life on September 19, 1969 having been purchased new from the Cia de Salamanca dealership in Madrid, Spain. During the two years, eight months that followed, it toured much of western Europe from its homes in both Spain and Italy, displaying its racing heritage on the Autopista, Autostrada and the Autobahn, as well as, the many exciting touring roads along the Mediterranean. Arriving in the US in the summer of 1972, the car moved to Colorado where it resided for the next 23 years, serving as a daily driver on the panoramic byways of the Rocky Mountains. In 1978, an engine rebuild was done at around 68,000 miles. The car had never been in an accident, but the sand on the Colorado roads severely impaired the paint finish. So in 1987, a trim off paint job was performed in the original Regency Red color and the reassembly was done with all new rubber seals and re-chromed trim. New original Connolly seat leathers were also installed. At that point, the work that had been started to refurbish the car stopped and the car remained garaged for many years to come. Finally, having tagged along on two relocations over the last 30 years, the owner decided to complete the refurbishment of the car with the goal of returning it to the very dependable, roadworthy vehicle that it had been from years long ago. This final phase of the refurbishment began with a complete brake system rebuild that included a new master cylinder and servo, lines, discs, rotors, pads and calipers. Both the front and rear suspension assemblies were reworked to replace all bushings, seals, boots, ball joints, tie rod ends, trailing arms, and more. The clutch was replaced along with both the master and slave cylinders and new engine mounts were also installed. Other new equipment improvements were a stainless steel exhaust system, an aluminum radiator, new heater pipes, new belts, cooling system hoses and new Vredestein tires. The gas tank was removed, cleaned and sealed and the carburetors were rebuilt. The driver's side floor pan was replaced, but there are no other rust problems that need to be addressed. Due to a blown head gasket, the valve train, pistons and crankshaft bearings were inspected and reworked as necessary. The car came with factory air conditioning that became inoperable. The work required to repair the old A/C system and the scarcity of R-12 refrigerant led to the removal of the old system in anticipation of installing a modern compressor and condenser. The cabin evaporator unit remains installed and the original compressor and condenser are spares that will be transferred to the buyer. All gauges, switches, lights and motors work as they should including the clock. The vehicle now has approximately 72,500 actual miles on the odometer and is in exceptional condition to engage many more miles of driving enjoyment. See the gallery of photos for the visual evidence of the cars condition and validation of matching numbers.
