1969 Jaguar E-Type, XKE, Series 2, 2+2 coupe. No Reserve
1969 Jaguar E-Type 2+2
You are bidding on a 1969 Jaguar E-Type, XKE, Series 2, 2+2 coupe, 4.2L, manual shift example that has been stored outdoors under a car cover for over 20 years. An original, Matching Numbers car that received extensive body repair for rust & a fresh re-spray in 1993 from its original Regency Red to black. The interior was completely redone at the same time from beige to black ...the owner thought the coupe would look stunning in a black on black combo. Supporting documentation from the MOT & previous owner (Lawyer) confirm that it has been a two owner car with the second owner cosmetically refurbishing it in 1993...the Jag went into long term storage in 1995 with 57,000 miles on the clock & reads as such today.
Unfortunately, this Jaguar suffered from our Canadian winters & shows significant rust & metal repair; on the rear wheel arches, lower doors, bonnet, floors & trailing arm mounts. The underside is soft, the floor pans are rotted through (I installed some metal strapping to hold them up for easy transportation of the car). There are no signs of any serious accident damage however, the nose of the Jag was tapped many years ago, the damage can be seen in some of the pics. The doors & rear hatch open open/close as they should & the bonnet fits well when positioned on the car...it is currently not mounted to the car. All of the body panels that suffered from extensive rust were repaired in the early nineties however, after sitting outdoors for such a long time the bondo has all flaked off exposing the original metal repair work...in order to prevent any further rusting I applied black primer to the exposed metal.
The exterior chrome trim is all intact & in average condition. All glass is the factory original & is in great condition.
The XKE has recently been pulled from storage & no attempt has been made to start the car. The engine turns freely by hand & the engine oil is clean. The transmission shifts easily through all of the gears. The gas tank & all fuel lines were removed from the car in 2004 as the tank started to leak...the tank is resting in position but not fixed in place as the previous owner had intentions of getting the Jag back on the road. At the same time, the brake/clutch hydraulics were removed along with the pedal box for refurbishment. All parts that were removed from the car are available & go with the car (see pics for parts removed). The spare wheel well is rusty & has several holes as can be seen in the pics. Five new tires were installed in 2004 but never driven on...they are of course dry rotted & need to be replaced but do hold air.
The interior is clean & for the most part complete & very respectable showing very little wear to the leather seats (driver side head rest missing), console, rear deck panels & carpet....all of this was replaced in 1993 seeing very little use before being parked in 1995. The dash pad has lifted, however the fascia is in excellent condition. The door panels were also replaced when the interior was refurbished but have warped terribly as it looks as though water got on them at some point. The headliner is the original & in excellent condition except for the area above the rear hatch...it looks like an animal clawed at. All dash switch gear and gauges are original and in excellent condition. The factory original wood steering wheel is in good condition with some cracking, the radio is original to the car & a dealer installed option. In addition, the Jag is equipped with a very rare 'rear window defog system' & the respective dash switch is in place. The two under dash panels tray's are in place and in good condition.
The electrical wiring seems to be the factory original however, current state is unknown as the Jag has not been started.
This is a numbers matching vehicle as verified by the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Certificate. It rolled off the assembly line on April 17, 1969 but did not get registered until 1970...hence the Ownership/Title year reads: 1970.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an original E-Type, at a price that is still affordable & depending on your 'resources'...can be restored to driver condition or to something much more....while still owning of one of history's most important & sought after sports cars.
Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like; more pictures are available beyond what the EBay auction shows.... they may be requested by sending me your personal email address.
I have tried to take pictures of all aspects of the car including the underside, however I don't have a hoist and took them lying underneath. If you want specific pics please feel free to ask, I will do my best to accommodate.
I am willing to ship WORLDWIDE & will assist with shipping arrangements.
Given that I am located inCanada, some US & offshore buyers may be reluctant to bid given the border crossing and or importation paperwork required to import the vehicle to their home destination. I can assist with providing the buyer with contact information to an international transportation company (specializing in relocating vintage and classic cars worldwide) that can safely and at a reasonable cost transport the vehicle. I have personally used this company several times and have been extremely pleased with the pick-up & delivery.
For European buyers, I can connect you with a logistics company that can transport the vehicle to a European port for somewhere between $1000-$1500, depending on the port.
