1985 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor

Have you been looking for an old police car to restore for shows or parades? This must be your lucky day. These boxy Ford police cars are still out there but getting extremely rare and hard to find! Here is your chance at an unmolested survivor that runs and drives!Vehicle description:Up for bids is this beautiful square boxy 1985 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Police Package/Interceptor, Blue exterior, Tan vinyl Interior, This Vehicle is equipped with optional for police only H.O. 5.8 L/351cu. V8 and 4 speed Automatic overdrive transmission. This car is a project car, it presents very well but does need care and restoration; but is an almost rust-free survivor! The car does start, run, idle and drive. It has a clean clear Arizona Title! The car is in good restorable condition, with a little work it would make a very dependable head turning daily driver or an easy police car restoration. This is a great example of a true vintage law enforcement vehicle and is a great way to get into the police car restoration hobby. The pictures speak for themselves it is beautiful!Vehicle Exterior Condition
- Vehicle was repainted in dual stage base and clear coat at some point. It presents and shows very well but is not perfect. If you start looking closely you start finding runs, dings, chips and scratches from use. Still a great looking car and the color is absolutely beautiful! Finished in modern Ford Steel Blue Metallic. I included photos during daylight and evening to show how it changes in the different lighting conditions and yet the pictures don't do it justice.
- Chrome and aluminum/stainless trim still shines beautifully but would need a polish to be perfect. Some dings and scratches from use.
- Front bumper is in good condition some light dings and scratches from use. Rubber rub strip has some wear as well. Has the original bumper guards.
- Front bumper retains its license plate holder that includes a DUI related license plate.
- Rear bumper is in good condition some light dings and scratches from use, rubber rub strip has fading and wear. Has a DARE bumper sticker in good condition. Has the original bumper guards
- Header panel is in good condition.
- Headlight bezels are in good condition
- Grill is in decent condition, has some wear on top driver corner. Ford emblem on grill is faded and has a crack from age.
- Parking, marker & turn signal lenses are in decent shape for their age but do have fading and small cracks.
- Rear tail lamp lenses are in decent condition for their age, they do have some fading.
- Reverse lamp lenses are in poor condition and are severely cracked.
- Rear trunk lid retains its Ford emblem in great condition.
- Has AM/FM Antenna on passenger side fender.
- Has 2 police antennas on trunk, one on rear driver side quarter panel and one center of trunk lid area.
- Vehicle has twin chrome police spotlights on both front A pillars. They are in good condition for their age but do have some light dings and scratches from use.
- Vehicle has 4 steel 15" wheels with original full wheel covers. Wheel covers are in poor driver condition they have many dings, dents and scratches from curbs but present well. Car does have a full-size steel 15" spare in trunk.
- Vehicle is about 98% rust free. No rust through on the body panels or frame. The only rust through it has is on the front passenger floor board due to a leaking heater core in its past. It will need to be repaired/patched to be perfect. The rest of the car underside has only surface rust.
- Trunk mounted license plate holder is in good condition.
- Manual remote mirrors work fine.
- Tires have plenty of tread, but they are old.
- No tinted windows
Vehicle Interior Condition
- The vehicles interior is tan in color and overall is in good/fair condition for a car its age, especially it being a former police unit. Not totally clean but definitely a survivor and is good enough for a daily driver. There is some stains throughout and would need a good cleaning to be perfect.
- Vehicle has a heavy-duty vinyl full bench front seat with center arm rest ; it is in good condition no major rips or tears but does have some cracking from age and sun. Manual lever to scoot front or rear works fine.
- Rear seat is also heavy-duty Vinyl and is also in good shape for its age. It also does have some cracking on top headrest area from age and sun.
- Vehicle has a new black carpet I assume replaced its original dry rotted rubber/vinyl full floor mat.
- Dashboard trim is in good condition, only area I see with wear is by headlight knob wiper lever from use.
- Dash pad is cracked due to hot Arizona sun,but does have a nice matching dash mat that hides it well.
- Headliner is in good condition not sagging. has some light stains.
- Rear C pillar panels are in good condition with some light stains
- Sun visors, Passenger side sun visor is in good condition, Driver sun visor is in fair condition and in is missing upholstery on one side due to sun damage/use. Both still work fine and do their job.
- Interior dome is missing the dome lense.
- Door panels are in fair condition they all have some rips tears and stains from use.
- Manual windows and locks all work as they should.
- Trunk is good, clean, trunk liner has stains.
- Speedometer and gauges look great!
- Ash tray is present and complete
- B pillars are good it does not appear to have had a divider/cage
- Rear door handles are present and work from the inside
- All factory seat belts are in place and functioning
- Tilt wheel works fine
Vehicle Electrical Condition
- Headlights, turn signals, hazards and running lights all work as they should.
- Wipers work but do not turn off unless fuse is pulled.
- Vehicle retains it original AM/FM radio. It is currently not working. I believe it is getting no power; wire may have been snipped during police equipment removal.
- Vehicle has the optional dash clock it works great!
- Interior dome light does not work or light up, may have been disabled by police for officer safety
- Equipped with Remote trunk release in glove box, it works great!
- Fuel gauge does not work this is typical in the 5.8L Police cars, could possibly be bad float on sending unit.
- No check engine light on.
- "Brake" dash light does stay on for unknown reason. Car does brake and stop fine, and parking brake works.
- Climate control switch and levers all work as they should.
- Vehicle has cruise control buttons on steering wheel but is not equipped with cruise control, so they don't work. Steering wheel may have been swapped in its lifetime.
- Horn works
- Cigarette/accessory/ phone charger power works
- Both Police spotlights were disconnected when car was retired from police service and currently do not work. Power wires were snipped.
- Vehicle has a third brake light added for safety, but it is currently not wired in.
- Has a good Motorcraft battery that is holding charge
Vehicle Mechanical ConditionAs mentioned above this vehicle is equipped with the optional to police only 351 cubic inch/5.8L High Output V8 with a double barrel carburetor, this engine is the more desirable option in the police car restoration community. The car currently does Start, Run, Idle and Drive under its own power, but it is running rough and does need a tune up, adjustments and full inspection before it can be road worthy. I would not recommend driving it any far distances till that is completed. Car is able to drive on and off a trailer or transport truck.The Engine compartment is mostly stock and mostly clean. Greasy in typical areas of a car its age.The original Variable Venturi carburetor has been replaced/upgraded with a 2-barrel 2150 carburetor for better performance and reliabilit. The new 2150 Carburetor does need to be tuned to spec and linkage adjusted. It was just slapped on to start the car. Original Ford Variable Venturi is included and is in the trunk if you wish to have it rebuilt and readded.This car came from a no emissions required area of the state; it currently is NOT a smog compliant car. The smog pump was bypassed by previous owner years ago. The emissions stuff is still all mounted under the hood and in place. Smog pump is present, untested and missing the pulley and belt.Transmission is a 4 speed Automatic overdrive.I did drive it once with the original Venturi Carburetor and it did shift into all 4 gears. Since the carburetor swap I have only driven it in and outside the shop, it shifts into drive and reverse fine. I have not experienced the other 3 gears with this new 2150 carburetor. The transmission linkage on 2150 carburetor is different than the stock Variable venturi, it will need slight modification/adjustment to work as it should.Brakes work fine and parking brake works and holds.Power steering has a leak from I believe a hose.Vehicle is equipped with factory A/C and Heater. A/C is not currently working due to previous owner bypassed the a/c compressor years ago with the smog pump. The Compressor is still there but would need belt re added and possibly a recharge.Heater is currently not working due to needs a heater core. Hoses have been by passed but are there.Equipped with the full SSV/Police package, it sports a 140mph certified calibration speedometer. Has 5-digit odometer it reads 31,950, being a police car, I assume its mileage to be at least 131,950, actual mileage is unknown, and vehicle is exempt from mileage reporting due to age.Does mileage really matter on a car like this anyway? It’s an old police car I expect high mileage. Anyone would just be happy to find it complete and in this condition! If your worried about mileage, try finding grandma’s LX driven only on Sundays.History of my ownershipI purchased this car for resale from a towing company. Car was an abandoned vehicle. I bought it as a non-runner. When I tried to start it. I then found the flex plate/flywheel was not being turned by the starter. After removing the starter, I found that some of the teeth were broken on both starter and flex plate. I had both starter and flex plate replaced with brand new parts and the car started right up. I drove it down the road with the original Variable Venturi carburetor and it shifted into all 4 gears. Carburator was having issues and car would shut off and not want to restart. I then replaced the carb with a new 2150 carburetor that was in the trunk. It now starts up every time with no issues. The car appears to have had its catalytic converters stolen at some point it its life, they were replaced by previous owner but did a poor welding job, so car does have exhaust leak and is louder than stock. All models before 1993 used “P72” or "P43" which stood for “fleet model" all police, taxis and base fleet cars where all P72’s or P43s before1993! But only the police models could be ordered with the high output V8’s and Certified 140mph speedometer. Yes, the 1992 is the newer Aero body style but it is still a “P72” with the police package option. All Police and taxis shared the P72 or P43 code up until 1993. There are full police package models with standard 5.0L V8 and/or the optional 5.8L V8. 1979 to1986 were P43s, 1987 to 1991 they were P72.
