Description:

1986 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon GL

I have owned this van for five years and have spent a small fortune in upgrades. Originally owned by Hugh Cregg, the father of Huey Lewis of Huey Lewis and The News, the van has been lovingly maintained with work done by professional mechanics. The van has 160,375 miles with 38,500 on it's replacement engine. It starts, idles and runs beautifully and can cruise at 70+ mph all day. The transmission shifts flawlessly. The factory AC blows ice-cold with a new AC compressor and modern refrigerant. The $1,700 sound system and satellite radio were professionally installed and include a Blaupunkt head unit, power Alpine amplifier, Polk surround speakers and large removable Polk subwoofer. The acoustics are simply amazing. The sink, refrigerator, and stove have seen little use and work great. GoWesty 1.5” lift springs were installed to account for the sagging that occurs over time. The van rides high (much like a Synchro) and level, allowing for perfect visibility in the rear-view mirror. Additionally, the van has passed strict Washington State emissions tests and should meet emissions standards in other states. This van has never been wrecked and it's Autocheck score suffers from a failed emissions test before the engine was replaced. Please take the time to review the entire Autocheck survey. The number is misleading given the engine was replaced and the emission concern removed.

Short-comings include the following: There are some scratches in the paint (Total Recon Auto Center in Rockville, MD detailed the van and removed several small dings - $800). The overall condition of the body and paint are very good, however, not immaculate. The rain gutter above the sliding door has a 4” bend from a previous roof rack mount. The interior drivers-side door panel is slightly bowed. The mattress in the upper compartment is not the original factory mattress. A new GoWesty LP propane tank has been mounted however needs the connecting valve to complete the installation. A tear in pop-up tent canvas was repaired with sail repair tape.
Buyers are welcome to schedule mechanical inspections prior to the close of auction.
This van is almost 30 years old and is sold without warranty.
