Hard to find 1959 European model VW bug with original Semaphores. The semaphores were not cut in. They are original to the body making it a very unique and rare find. This car runs well and gets a lot of attention. The interior and body are in really great shape and is rust free. I purchased this car from a collector who stored it in a warehouse with his other vehicles for the last 25 years. He kept up on the registration and drove all of his cars periodically. Going back further, he purchased this car from the owner of a European import dealer that is said to have restored it for his daughter. This restoration was done several years ago and the pan of a 1962 was installed at that time. The car is titled as a 1962.
Mechanical: My wife and I purchased this car 2 years ago and immediately had it looked over by a professional VW mechanic. We completed all of the recommended mechanical work at that time see the detailed list below. I am told the engine is from a ’61 bus. A new Carburetor and fuel pump were installed right before I purchased it and I put new shocks on last year. Battery date is 2022. I installed a new starter this year. We have put close to $3,000 in maintenance and repairs since purchasing.
The car starts up every time, hot or cold and is in great running condition and has never let us down. It has good power, scoots right along, shifts smoothly, handles and brakes well. It leaks a bit of oil after driving as shown in pictures. The tires will need to be replaced. They "look" great and have lots of tread although they are old and should be considered unsafe to travel on. All of the electrical is working except for the windshield wipers and radio. I can’t say why as I haven’t even looked at fixing either of these things. There is a spot on the bottom of the engine that looks like there was a repair where the sled tins attach to, as shown in picture.
Body:
The body is straight and in really good condition. It shows well and looks to be rust free! Please note that this is not a museum car. There are minor scratches in the body and wheels. A few small dings in the bumper and a small one on the front fender as well as passenger door trim. The rim of the hood has a small crease/paint chip. I tried to show all of this in my photos or videos.
The wheels, rack, and blue on body could all be easily repainted if the color combo is not of your choice. I am told the original color of this car was Fjord blue. I can not find a body number on this car.
I have multiple detailed pictures and videos for you to view, so please look at them all to get a good look and feel for this unique car. If you have any questions please ask and if you are a serious buyer and would like to talk on the phone, just let me know.
I am not a VW professional. I have gathered as much information as possible from mechanics, the previous owner, and other enthusiasts but do not claim to know the full history of this car. Please view photos and videos carefully. If you need additional photos or videos before purchase to confirm any information provided, I am happy to supply those.
