1987 Shelby Series1 CSX

Offered here for sale is a real fun eighties classic Dodge reimagined by automotive legend Carroll Shelby!

Only 750 1987 examples were made and all came black, this is #230. A 2.2 litre turbocharged inline 4 powers the front wheels through a 5 speed manual, cracking fun when the turbo kicks in!

This particular car was the subject of a magazine project and went through some major upgrades in the engine. I don't have a list noting the items, what I do know is this thing flies! It was done a few years so it's starting to show some use. The speedo was replaced with a 160mph versionso the odometer only shows the low mileage, we have no idea how many miles are really on it.

The car is generally mechanically sound, the motor runs strong, the tranny shifts well and the brakes function efficiency. The one thing that needs attention is a possible rightside driveshaft or associated bushings as it starts to vibrate when you accelerate, I wouldn't imagine it being too complicated and parts should be readily available and cheap.

The body is pretty decent, it doesn't show signs of being bashed about, it's had paint but that's starting to go on the roof, the rest still shines well. It doesn't have it's original wheels.

The interior was redone in the non-correct 1989 Shelby fabric on the front seats and door panels, I just noticed as I posted this that rear seats are done in the proper style but they have no hardware and are resting in the back! The dash is good with no cracks. The headliner is original and shows some light discolouring.

Growing up in the UK during 80's we were mad for "hot hatches!" VW set the pace with the legendary Golf GTi and Ford and GM responded with the Escort XR3 and Astra GTE, this car reminds me of those times and would give each one of them a run fortheir money!

The car is currently owned by Cleo Shelby who was married to Carroll when he passed. She bought the car just over a year ago on the advice of a friend who was going to help her with it, sadly he passed away so the car just sat at her home. Cleo asked me around June to get it running and ready to sell. I've got to say it was pretty surreal using Carol's tools to start the car.

This is the cheapest way to get into a real Shelby and one actually owned by Mrs. Shelby!

This car needs some TLC, nothing that would break the bank, but once it's done, what a fun bit of kit, I could listen to that wastegate popping all day! When I chatted to Jay Leno about the car he said he loved them after just having a GLHS on his show, he said "when that turbo kicks in..." I was impressed by how many people at my local cars and coffee said how cool it was.

If I can learn more on the engine build I'll add it. I'm selling this car for Cleo andI will be happy to answer any questions Tony (310)663-6494
