Description:

1978 Porsche 911 SC

For sale: 1978 811 SC Coupe. Overall this is a rust free Southwest car. We have had this 911 for about 11 months. It has been driven a few times a week since acquiring it. This 911 can be used as a driver while improving on it, and is also a great starting point for a full restoration or an outlaw build.
Exterior: Originally a Grand Prix White Coupe (paint code 908), the car was previously repainted. The paint job was a driver level respray in the original color. There are a few areas of overspray on rubber trim pieces etc. There are also a few areas where the paint has chipped and been touched up over the years. There are also a few minor runs in the paint. Overall though the paint shines upon nicely. It would further benefit from color sanding and paint correction. The quarter window trim on both sides is currently removed. I had to replace one of the rear quarter windows and the glass installer was afraid of damaging the trim so we left it off. It is included with the car. All glass is in nice shape. There are holes in the front lower valance for fog lights. The car comes with the fog lights but they are in poor condition. There are a couple of very shallow creases on the engine lid which could be easily removed by a pointless dent shop.
Interior: The leather interior was reupholstered by House of Covers in Albuquerque by the previous owners. It is now a two-tone black and white. There are no tears or split seams in the leather. There is a piece of carpet missing on the rear of the interior on the driver's side. The back seat bottoms are not in very good shape. Overall the original black carpet is in good shape. The dash is crack free and the reupholstered door panels are in nice shape as is the center console. The car retains its original white headliner. The stereo does not currently work. The AC was gone through a couple of years ago and will come with $1100 worth of documented work, including a new drier, etc. Both power windows function but the passenger side is slow. The sunroof is non-operational.
Wheels and tires: The car has 16x7 and 16x8-inch Fuchs with black centers. The rear tires are in very good shape, but the front tires should be replaced as they are dried out and older.
Engine and transmission: The original 3.0-liter engine was replaced with a lower mileage 3.0-liter SC motor which is documented. The engine runs great and starts up immediately every time. There is a new fuel pump and fuel filter. The oil was recently changed along with the spark plugs. We also replaced the lower valve cover gaskets. The throttle feels heavy and would benefit from a thorough lubrication of the linkage. Overall the engine produces good power, revs out nicely and does not smoke or make any strange noises. The 915 5-speed transmission shifts through all gears with no grinding. Clutch is firm with no slipping.
Suspension and brakes: The suspension feels firm and it appears it has been lowered to Euro-spec ride height. The brakes are responsive and function as they should. They have been upgraded with braided steel brake lines.
Electricals: Headlights, taillights, reverse lights all work. The turn signal stalk however needs some attention.
I would love to keep this car but have other projects that need attention. You can call me at 505-907-2111 if you would like to speak about the car in person. I encourage serious buyers to see the car in person and will also take the car to a local mechanic for a PDI, provided the cost is covered by the bidder. I will assist with shipping as far as meeting the shipping company to get the car loaded, etc. CAR IS SOLD AS IS, WITH NO IMPLIED WARRANTY.
