1967 Porsche 912 Coupe

1967 Porsche 912 vin 461576, still wearing its California Black Plates, last on the road in 1996, pans are excellent showing no rust whatsoever! Car runs and drives beautifully after having gone through a full rebuild of the brake system, the fuel system, the engine and a transmission service. I have included a video of the car being driven. The engine pulls strong in all 5 forward gears as well as reverse. Transmission shifts smoothly in all gears, synchros are excellent in all gears with no transmission noise whatsoever. New 165/80 x 15 inch tires were just installed, mounted and balanced.
All brake calipers were removed and media blasted and then rebuilt with new seals; all 4 rotors were turned within spec, the front wheel bearings were inspected and repacked with grease, a complete set of new rubber brake line hoses were installed on the car as well as a new master cylinder and new brake pads. The hand brake was also inspected and holds the car when it is pulled up.
The engine came was removed from the car and fully disassembled with new main bearings, new rod bearings, new pushrod tubes, and a complete set of new engine seals with powder coated tin and new bright zinc plating on the brightwork. A new muffler was installed; pistons and cylinders were measured and sent off for cleanign and honing; new Deves piston rings were installed; heads were inspected by local machine shop with a specialty in Porsche engines and showed little wear; flapper boxes were cleaned adn powder coated. All assembly work was done in house and the engine measured within spec wear limits for case, crankshaft, rods, pistons, heads and flywheel. The engine was then assembled and run on a test stand for additional testing and leak checks and oil pressure check. Engine oil pressure showed 45-50 lbs at idle and higher when engine was revved. Afterwards, the engine was then installed in the car. The engine number is 1283544 which is a later 1968 engine. The previous owner told us that while in California a younger driver had run the old engine out of oil. The engine which is now in the car was a replacement engine which was acquired and installed in the car while still in California.
Transmission gear oil was drained and magnetic plug inspected and showed clean. New spec gear oil was installed and the transmission shifts beautifully. Clutch and release bearing are excellent.
The fuel system was gone through, fuel pump checked, and new german weave fuel line installed as well as a new hard fuel line front to back which goes through the tunnel. The old fuel line in the tunnel had developed a block; it was better (although more work!) to replace the fuel line rather than to risk contaminants entering the carburetors through the old fuel line. Carbs were replaced with a set off a great running 912. Distributor was inspected and new points, cap, rotor, plugs and wires were installed.
The generator system was checked and charges; a new correct battery was purchased and installed.Generator light indicator and oil pressure light indicator work on the gauges as does the temp gauge. Tachometer works, speedometer velocity works, odometer works but trip odometer does not work; headlights work, right turn signal works (could get left turn signal to work), brake lights work; fuel level gauge does not currently work although we have ordered a new sending unit which is included in the sale of the car.
The body of the car is very straight, doors close firmly with nice gaps all around, hood closes evenly and nicely as does the engine lid. There is no evidence of accident on the car that we have found. The door and hood lines are even and straight. The pans are original on the car with the exception of the front suspension pan which we replaced since there was a small battery acid hold and someone had mangled the tow hook. The rockers and jack points are original and near perfect. There is a small bubble on the passenger side very bottom of the fender--no hole, just a small bulge as well as some minor perforations on the upper package under the rear window wear moisture collects-a normal for the early 911s and 912s. Nothing serious but I want you to know what I see.
The car is painted Irish Green, paint code 6606, which is stamped on the driver side door pillar. At some point it looks as though the car was repainted in its original color no doubt due to the hot California sun bearing down on the car. It shows some blemishes up close such as nicks and scratches, some light stone chips, peeling and crazing from over the years in a hot, dry climate. The interior has also suffered from the hot California sun bearing down on the dash and rear panels. The dash was recovered in some sort of fabric and it is beginning to flake off. The seats are all present but could use reupholstering.
The car runs and drives strong and beautifully! In fact, this is probably the strongest running 912 we have driven and we driven quite a few! Here is a short video of the car being driven (please copy and paste into your browser):https://youtu.be/CPtdYQyNaso
