1970 Pontiac Bonneville Original 455 Convertible

1970 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible with the Original 455 numbers matching engine selling at "No Reserve"

This is a very rare 1970 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible. I can't even remember seeing one on the road during the past 2 or 3 decades. I have no idea what the production numbers are, but they must be very low. This particular Convertible came in the very popular Verdoro Green that was used on many Pontiac models between 1967 and 1970. They may have called this paint code 48 another name in 1970, but I always knew it as Verdoro Green. I'm an Olds guy and a 455 was always considered a Big Block. My Pontiac buddy's tell me that Pontiac never made a Big Block, but I have to say this Original 455 sure feels like a Big Block. What a sweet engine! Sure would go nice in a TransAm of a GTO, but I would never remove a numbers matching engine from any car. This paint is believed to be mostly all original outside of a few minor touch up spots. I would recommend that the new owner gives this rare convertible the much deserved restoration that it deserves to bring it back to its former glory days. If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures. I will explain everything I found out from the previous owner at the point of purchase. This Bonnie is in very good daily driver type condition. The 455 engine is numbers matching and was completely rebuilt less than 2000 miles ago. At the time of the rebuild there was a new water pump installed, all new belts and hoses. The exhaust system is completely new from front to back with flowmaster mufflers, so this tank really sounds cool behind the new chrome exhaust tips. The air conditioning looks to be all hooked up including a new belt. I've never tried the a/c, so it may blow ice cold. The a/c compressor look new as well. My close buddy was fortunate enough to spot it near St. Louis for me. He knew I was looking for one since I sold my 66 Bonneville convertible. I was going to use it for my daily driver in the summers, but I could use the funds to finish up some other projects that I'm in the middle of. The paint is faded so that could use some freshening up. The prior owner said this car had never been in any accidents with the exception of the ding in the right front fender and a small spot on the left rear. I scrutinized this entire car and saw no signs of it ever being hit other than what I described. I believe all of the body panels to be original to this car. The bumpers look to be in decent condition, but to make the car stellar they could use a refinishing. Remember, They only come original once! The odometer has rolled over once, so the correct mileage is 121,807. This original Pontiac 455/360 horsepower cubic inch engine is as close to the way it rolled out of the factory on to the showroom floor as far as I can tell. I don't know all that much about Pontiacs, but mostly everything does look original to me. The quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor has been rebuilt as well as the original 455 numbers matching engine with the original Turbo-Hydromatic 400. Needless to say this Bonnie starts right up and runs incredible. This Convertible runs awesome and handles great. Both doors open and close like when this car was brand new in 1970. The gangster cover for the passenger side is included in the trunk, but the missing one piece lower chrome rocker trim on the passenger side will need to be found by the new owner. I saw one on Craigslist a while back for $50, but just missed it. I can say that the rear end on this 1970 is one of the coolest rear ends you will ever see on one of these full size classic convertible's. The inside of the trunk could easily fit about 8 buddies if you place them in the trunk like sardines on the way to the drive-in movie theater. The interior appears in good condition and there are no cracks that I could spot on the dash pad. The front seat will need to be reupholstered, but a new cover was placed over the bench seat prior to this sale. The carpeting will need to be replaced, but there is a new set of four Deluxe tan carpeted floor mats. All of the seat belts are still in place for an entire family. The original AM/FM stereo is currently not hooked up. I left the stereo decision up to the new owner.
The convertible top does not have any rips or tears, but could use a nice replacement. The California boot cover that goes over the top when the top is in the well, is attached to the top of the back seat. It appears to be the original cover. I have not tried to cover up the top with it, but it is inside the well in case the new owner would like to attach it properly whenever they go top down cruising. They were always too much trouble for me to attach all the way. This Pontiac rides on a full set of four Brand New P225 75/R15" inch Goodyear raised white lettered tires on a set of four 15" inch Pontiac Rally Wheels with all four center caps, all four beauty trim rings, and the correct Pontiac lug nuts. The land yacht drives down the road like a dreamboat. It has none of the rattles that the old convertible's often do. The floors are solid and frame is in good condition. The trunk floor is also in good original condition. The sides of the trunk still has the original side cardboard formations. That's how original this car still is. The original jack and crow bar were restored and sit on the trunk mat. The trunk also carries a full size Pontiac rally wheel with a newer spare tire that actually holds air. That way if there is a mishap on the road this Bonnie can be back cruising in a matter of minutes. Why not make your money work for you while you enjoy yourself. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1970 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible with air conditioning and the 455/360 horsepower engine and rally wheels valued at $43,375 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
Nada has the average condition valued at $22,375, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
They have the lowest condition valued at $11,000 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
