THE GOAT!1966 Pontiac GTO convertible389ci V8 Tri-PowerAutomaticw/ Vintage Air ConditioningThe GTO grew up in 1966 and became a separate Pontiac model (model number 242), instead of being an option package on the Tempest LeMans and became affectionately know as THE GOAT.The entire GM A body intermediate line was restyled that year, gaining more curvaceous styling with kicked-up rear fender lines for a Coke-bottle look, and a slightly tunneled backlight.The tail light featured an iconic look of louvered cover tail lights, only seen on the GTO .Also an automotive industry first, plastic front grilles replaced the pot metal and aluminum versions seen on earlier years and New Strato bucket seats were introduced with higher and thinner seat backs and contoured cushions for added comfort and adjustable headrests were introduced as a new option.The high powered Tri-Power option (360hp) was only offered for half the production year making it the most sought after version. Our vehicle This vehicle was built the third week of March 1966 in Pontiac Mi.The original Burgundy (N) has a very good repaint with a white (1) Convertible top and Parchment (224) interior with bucket seats(B) which comes with black rugs are all there matching the data tag and all in very good condition.The 389 motor was built on February 5, 1966 and stamped top of engine on distributor pad which also verifies this is a GTO motor(code 9778789).The package is completed with 3 rochester quadrajet 2 bbl carbs connected by progressive mechanical linkage and chrome topped air filters.Interior has Timber veneer instrument cluster surround with four instrument dials (left to right): Fuel gauge/battery, speedo (120 MPH), updated tach, water temp/oil pressure. "LeMans Deluxe" steering wheel was fitted standard and wheel has a Pontiac badge on the center boss all in very good condition.The optional metallic center console black and chrome and shows well and adds finish to the interior..The standard wheels have be upgraded to period correct Chrome Cragar five spoke wheels in impeccable condition.This is a very well kept and put together representative of the very ICONIC vehicle, THE GOAT that started and defines this total class of vehicles.
