1982 Dodge Other

For Sale is a 1982 Dodge 400 convertible. It is in nice original condition. The dealer and shop I've taken it to have commented on how nice it is, as you rarely see K Convertibles anymore. The car is white, with a red interior. The exterior paint is serviceable and original, but there are some chips, and unfortunately recently a light key damage from some jerk who apparently doesn't like other people having nice things. (It's hard to see unless you're looking at a shallow angle to the car) The interior is pretty nice, with some wear to the driver's seat, on the bolster, and the seat top, and a tiny hole on the passenger seat, both pictured. The car has manual windows, and the driver's seatbelt doesn't retract all of the way. The courtesy lights are slightly melted from the heat of the bulbs, although I'm not sure I've seen one where that wasn't the case. The car also features aluminum alloy rims.
The convertible top, which operates well, was replaced within the last two years by the previous owner, although the errant key vandal scratched it too. It's not compromising the top in any way from a functional standpoint. It has the original snap tonneau cover, which is decent and functional, but a couple of the snaps need to be replaced. The car has a rare 8-track player, which worked really well until it ate a tape. It still plays, but I think it's playing at a slightly retarded speed. I'm assuming the car has 119k miles, and not 19k, but the odometer is only 5 digits. The car is originally from Washington state which presumably accounts for the incredibly clean body, with little or no rust.
The engine does have a few oil leaks, commensurate with a 35 year old Chrysler product, but this has the larger 2.6L Mitsubishi engine, which although you have to make sure you keep the timing chain guides replaced at their needed intervals, it doesn't seem to eat head gaskets like the 2.2L counterpart. I've recently replaced the water pump and belt, the valve cover gasket, a wheel bearing, a few suspension bushings/ball joint, and had the e-brake fixed after one of the brake drums decided to be a punk, and stop functioning properly. I've also replaced the windshield wiper bushings as well, a notorious (and not exactly cheap) repair. The only modification I've made to the car was replacing the hood ornament with the Crystal Pentastar from a LeBaron. The original will come with the car.
A/C doesn't seem to work, and the cruise control needs a servo to function (I did see one available online, but haven't purchased it, but had it been available from the dealer, it would've been replaced already). The engine does need a new air intake hose, as the current one is wearing duct tape from the precision owner. That will have to be done with aftermarket hose/tubing because the part is NLA from Mopar, or it would've already been replaced.
I sometimes drive the car to work, since we're having lovely convertible weather, and I did take it on a four hour drive to Louisville and back, and a couple hour trip to visit family, so it's a capable driver. Would I drive it across the country? Probably not. If I tried would I make it? Probably. It's at it's best at around 45-50, cruising back roads, or driving into the city for a weekend day of fun. It garners tons of attention. People love it. Including me. Unfortunately, my driving needs have changed, and I will be doing a lot of long distance driving to Atlanta, which is going to require something better suited, and it's not right to do that to such a survivor.
Also included with the car are a number of service records dating back to the original owner, as well as the owner's manual and original bill of sale. This car cost $15k in 1982, and was financed at an 18.25% interest rate.
If you're interested in seeing the car beforehand, I'd encourage it, it can be seen in Cincinnati or Jeffersonville Ohio, whichever is closer to you. Just send me a message, and we can work out the details.
