1969 Chevrolet Corvair

Apple Pie, Fourth of July and Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertibles!
Great 1969 Corvair Monza Convertible, one of 221 or so, in the final year of production. I got this car from my neighbor, who suddenly downsized from a house to a boat,.
That owner, a captain for a cruise line, restored the body. The floors and rocker panels were replaced with parts from Clark's Corvairs. He changed the color to the current gray. Good job with door frames, trunk, engine compartment painted. The car then sat, running occasionally to keep it up, but essentially a drivable but incomplete project.
I have touched up areas on the rockers, using the same paint, and undercoated the new steel panels. The brakes have been completely overhauled, new master cylinder, shoes, slave cylinders at each drum. Steering bushings have been replaced. Oil changed, valves adjusted (one replaced). The body is very solid without any visible evidence of rust. Both rear wheel bearings were replaced.
The car runs fine, and it's testimony to what a great car these second generation Corvairs were. With fully independent rear suspension, parts shared with the Corvette, and a four-speed manual, it's a great car for cruising up the beach. Plus, it's a simple machine!
Did I mention that this car is fun to drive?
Like any car, there's room for taking it farther, according to your desires, but you have a good, solid rust-free car to enjoy that runs well that you can enjoy today. The convertible top appears to be nearly new, with a perfect rear window, but it needs some adjustment, as the top should advance further forward on the windshield frame. The weak point of the car is the driver's seat, which has some rips and separations. The passenger front seat is ok, the rear seat is in good shape. The radio is missing. There should be a padded center portion of the dash. I have the metal frame and ashtray, but the padding is long gone. The dash pad should be replaced. The black loop carpet is ok.
As the car sits, it's a good #3 car. It's perfect for enjoying for the rest of the Summer, and you can restore the interior at your own pace.
