1968 Chevrolet El Camino

1968 Chevrolet El Camino LS1 /5 speed resto-mod conversion

Frame-off, Fuel Injected, 20 mpg highway, 400+ HP

Car was fully restored with frame-off 7 year restoration completed in 2015 on a southern car. The entire car is basically new. This was a very thorough restoration and upgrade to the car that I intended to permanently keep for my personal use. However, I have too many other projects and want to make some room so I am reluctantly offering it for sale at a price that it cannot be duplicated for.

Approximately 1000 miles since completion- road tested and runs perfect and quick.

Engine-newly built 2002 LS6 spec. LS1 V8 all aluminum 350 cubic inch motor with 2002 corvette heads and LS6 fuel injection manifold- stock short block with factory LS6 cam-405 Horsepower (GM rating without headers). New muscle car oil pan to fit GM A body chassis. Edelbrock A body LS1 motor mounts.

New GM engine accessory drive with new water pump, 140 amp alternator and power steering pump.

New Saginaw 600 quick ratio steering box. (stock style but 12.5 to 1 ratio).

New Ididit tilt ’68 style steering column and new nickel plated steering linkage/u-joints.

New style 3 point seatbelts/shoulder harnesses installed.

Edelbrock LS1 1.75 inch diameter primary tube silver coated long-tube headers and 3 inch dual exhaust with X crossover pipe and flowmaster mufflers. Sounds great-nice rumble in exhaust note!

All new sheet metal professionally installed (no rust, all panels EDP coated underneath to prevent future rust). Every major panel on the car is new except for doors and bed floor. New roof, rear cab to bed panel, inner bedsides, outer bedsides (full rear quarters), gm rocker panels, wheelhouses, front fenders, radiator core support, hood and tailgate and front bed floor panel.

Frame was sandblasted and coated with epoxy chassis paint.

New factory style body mounts and bolts installed.

Underside of bed/ cab body panels painted with epoxy chassis paint.

New ‘68 SS style steel hood.

New Jet Black Urethane Enamel paint -3 coats-(wet sanded and polished).

All new bumpers, grill, trim, windshield, rear glass, taillight bezels.

New interior, headliner, door panels, dash, reupholstered bucket seats and factory console.

New aftermarket GM style wire harness with labeled wires, 16 circuits and new style cartridge fuses.

New GM computer and custom wire harness for the fuel injection and cooling controls set up for 2002 LS6 (Corvette Z06) style motor- made by Speartech in Muncie, Indiana. The computer can be diagnosed by any GM dealer.

New fuel tank set up for in-tank fuel pump. Aeromotive Stealth 340 fuel pump installed 2014- good for any future motor upgrades to 600 hp.

New aftermarket Nu-Relics power windows (factory style switches).

New door/window weatherstrips and window track linings for smooth window operation.

New aftermarket dash with new aftermarket programmable gauges. (Stewart Warner Power Series Tach and Speedo 3 3/8 in diameter.)

New aluminum heavy duty radiator and electric cooling fan controlled by computer.

New smooth hinged tonneau cover for the bed.

Textured bed floor liner custom cut to protect bed floor (removable-not spray in).

Have full book of receipts for all parts that comes with car.

For full disclosure, here are the projects that I feel are remaining to finish on this car:

  • Finish air conditioning install by installing condenser, compressor drier and hoses and charging the system with Freon (134A). These items are not included with the sale but can be purchased from vintage air or a number of other vendors and should take a reputable shop less than a day to install. The existing air conditioning components are wired and sealed as new from the factory so there will be no issues with the under dash portion of the system.

  • Install factory emergency brake foot pedal and connector cables for the emergency brake. The rear emergency brake calipers (Cadillac El Dorado Style) are installed and ready to hookup. The cables are off the shelf items.

  • The paintbeen color sanded and buffed but has a few hazy areas and fine scratches that need touched up (color sanded and buffed) for a show quality finish. There are a couple a small paint defects, the paint is very good in my opinion but not perfect. Any issues are easy to fix as this is single stage urethane paint.
