1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Up for sale is my numbers matching 1971 Camaro Z28. This is a REAL Z28 not a clone or tribute car. I'm writing this listing with a heavy heart. This was my dream car that I purchased from a gentlemen (2nd owner) in upstate NY. I fell in love with these Camaro's when I was just 5 years old as my dad had copper 1971 Z-28 growing up. I purchased this car in June of 2001 from the second owner. He bought it from his best friend somewhere by 1980 whom I also met when I picked up the car. The two of them are pictured in a photo I have when I picked up the car. I wanted an original, unmolested Camaro, good documented history and after a long search, I found this one. Over the last 17 years, when time and funds were available, I've lovingly restored the car and I honestly thought that I would never sell it but the time has finally come. I painstakingly replaced parts with NOS or had original parts restored whenever possible. I just don't drive it at all and it's a shame. I went from 2-4 car shows a year with the kids to not driving it at all last year or this year. I've periodically taken her out around the block a few times during each year and always change the oil each season, adjust a few things and check other fluids regardless of how much I took her out or not. There is a lot information to share about the car and I will bullet point what I know to be factual below. Almost everything is new or newer. No rhyme or reason to the order listed below as I have so much information on the car. I have receipts (dating back to 1980) for everything mentioned as well: • 1971 Camaro Z28 in Tuxedo Black w/ white stripes LT1 350 • 4 speed manual with Muncie M-21 • Non console car • 10 bolt 3:73 rear end w/ tag still on drain plug • Vin #: 124871N591389 • Norwood Ohio plant. Car was built 4th week of June 1971 • I have TONS of paperwork with receipts dating back from the 2nd owner starting in 1980 plus all my paperwork from 2001. • Partial build sheet shown in photo. Does not have a protect-o plate. 2nd owner said he would look for it when I bought the car but he could not locate it. • Engine block #: V0527CGP 951389 • Manifold intake #: 3959594 • Bell housing #: 2899621 • Transmission #: P1E11A 591389 • Carburetor 4 barrel Holley #: 4801 3989021 • BODY TAG: ST 71 12487NOR 194116 TR 775 19 19 pnt 06D Z28 .11 • Removed aftermarket radio. Had original AM radio restored (owner saved and gave to me) and installed with correct speaker in front dash. Replaced rear package tray when I put back AM radio to get rid of aftermarket speakers that were installed. • Installed a Gardener Exhaust System when restoring car. It was built to exact factory specifications. Cost in 2002 was $963. Sounds incredible. Gardener is well known in exhaust systems for people trying to match factory specifications. Sounds so nice! • Most of the major restoration happened back in 2002. Front sub frame off restoration. Car has maybe had 1,500 miles put on it since. Local car shows only. Have every receipt for every purchase and all work done to car since I've owned it plus all receipts from 1980 when prior owner had the car. • New gas tank. • New fuel lines. • New brake lines. • New bushing / gaskets / seals all around. • Changed from points to electronic ignition hidden nicely within the distributor cap. • Correct shocks painted the correct GM grey. Suspension all around car was done. • Engine was professional rebuilt. Retains solid lifters but I did bump to a mild cam from Comp Cam. I have the specification card showing duration, lobe lift / separation, ect. • New battery. Always kept on trickle charger during storage. • Had original radiator re-cored, painted, etc., and installed back in car. • New suspension springs painted correct GM grey. • New center link. • New windshield. Old one had a chip in it that bothered me. • Has all the original exhaust manifolds and smog equipment w/ extension tubes and French clips. Rare as most just threw these parts away. • Sub-frame and exhaust manifold was all powder coated. • Wiper motor / washer pump resorted to new. • Replaced clutch fork and lower shift boots with NOS parts. • New correct Goodyear Polyglas tires bought 3 years ago. I also have the spare as well. Has all the original jack equipment and cover properly installed in the trunk. • Have original steering wheel. Replaced with current for looks. • New clutch, throw-out bearing, pressure plate, ect., when car was restored. • Have every part ever removed/replaced from car. Old exhaust was thrown out. I even had the original polyglas tires till I finally tossed them when I got the new ones. They were just rotted and flat spotted. Couldn't see the value in keeping them anymore. • Rims all painted correct GM color. New Chevy bowtie center caps. Has correct gold iridite on brake booster. Correct GM gray phosphate on hood latch and springs. Again, I took time to correctly restore each part as my goal was always to keep the car as factory correct/original as possible. • All new carpet. New front seat covers. New headliner. • That is the correct and original rear spoiler. 1971 came with either or. Lots of theories as to why but point is it was not changed out. It is correct to this car and is the original. • Car has only been hand washed maybe 5 times since 2001. The rest of the time I used a California duster and spray cleaners each time I took her out. Never driven in rain or any bad weather and it's always been stored in my heated garage. • Paint: 2nd owner painted the entire car in the 1980's. I have those photos too. Since my ownership I have painted the hood w re-stripe, both front fenders and both doors. Hood had a wave in it and it bothered me so I had that done and a detailer scratched the front fender with his buffer. Doors were painted because someone at a car show bumped their door into the car and other was scratch I did accidently when moving a heavy item carelessly by the car. Roof, trunk and rear fenders still retain the 1st repaint the second owner did. Some small tough up marks from chips over the years but you'd have to be within inches to tell. • Had all the bumpers and bumperets re-chromed about 4 years ago. I did not do the door handles or the key latches. • Even sent out original alternator to be restored and reinstalled on car. • New weather stripping. • New door sills. • I even have the original on-line ad where I located the car on Hemmings. • Have the original owner's manual and even have collected the ads from that year on the Z28 and have sales brochure for Camaro from that year. • Two sets of keys. • Car cover. • Mechanically the car runs and drives great. Get in and go! Some of the concerns of the car, although minor, are worth explaining before you bid: • Dash pad- It's curled on passenger side. I tried replacing OEM part but I didn't like the fit so I left it thinking I'd find a NOS part but lost interest in looking. Curl is not severe and I've heard that there are guys out there actually restoring these curled originals. • Door glass- Has some light scratching in them from rolling up and down and the felt guide wearing down overtime causing some metal to come in contact with the glass. They are original to the car and never bothered me as we always have the windows down when driving or showing the car. • Gauge cluster- I had it restored professionally about 4 years ago and it worked great and then the tachometer stopped working. I never pursued because I didn't want the aggravation of removing it again. Looks mint and everything else works fine with the exception of the tach. • Rearview mirror has some fogging in glass. Chrome door handles have some minor pitting. • Again, some nicks and chips in the paint that have been touched up but you will have to look very closely. Might be a couple other minor imperfections but I can't think of anything offhand. That said, this car gets attention the moment I pull it out of the garage with people giving me thumbs up or waving when I drive it. These real Z28's are getting harder and harder to find with all its bits still intact. This car will only continue to go up in value for years to come. I loved this car and will miss it the moment it's gone. The best looking Camaro's every made in my opinion. I hope my lengthy description at the very least gives you sense for how the car was cared for and cherished over the last 17 years.
