This 1956 Volkswagen Beetle is a Karmann-bodied,oval-windowconvertible that was acquired by the seller in 2003, and is one of approximately 6,800 examples produced at the famed Wolfsburg, Germany VW factory for that model year.This California oval-window convertible is now offered by the seller with recent service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Details:The car is powered by an air-cooled 1,192cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and is finished in red with white accents and brown vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a tan convertible soft top withtonneau cover,15″ steel wheels wrapped in Firestone bias-ply whitewall tires, bullet-style front indicators, a flower vase, and a Blaupunkt AM/FMvacuumtube radio.Service in preparation for the sale included - new fuel tank, lines, and fuel filter, performing a brake fluid flush, under-engine steam cleaning, repair of small oil leak and welding the left decklid hinge mount.This oval-window convertible is now offered by the seller with a recent service record and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The convertible body was refinished in red with ivory sides, under previous ownershipand the tan convertible soft top was replaced. Additional exterior details include bullet-style front indicators, a tan convertible soft top boot, and twin exhaust outlets.The rear chrome-finished bumper blade, overrider, seals, and mounting bolts were replaced and welding repairs were performed on the left decklid hinge mount in August 2023.The existing “pea shooter” exhaust finishers exhibit a small bit of corrosion, a new pair of replacement exhaust tips will accompany the car.
The spare tire well has visible corrosion, and there are paint chips on the hood and front fenders as well as the rear of the vehicle on the decklid and surrounding surfaces.
Color-coordinated 15″ steel wheels wear chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with Firestone Gum-Dipped bias-ply whitewall tires. Paint chips are visible on the parking brake and shift levers.The ivory-colored two-spoke “bat wing” steering wheel has a Wolfsburg-logo horn button and frames an 80-mph VDO speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 90k miles, 2k of which were added by the current owner.The air-cooled 1.2L (3) flat-four has a Bosch ignition coil and a single downdraft carburetor topped with an oil-bath air cleaner.
