1968 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van White RWD Manual
1968 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper
Vehicle DetailsWow what a fantastic find! This 1968 German Vw Westy Camper Bus has been in hibernation for over 20 years (so it needs everything that any car that has been off the road that long needs, tires, brakes, not running).
Interestingly, this bus has a build date in 1967 so this is possibly one of the first few Bay Window buses off the assembly line (1967 was the last year of the Split window buses made in Germany).
Exterior: as expected it isn’t perfect, but for being over 50 years old it’s in pretty good condition. See pictures.
Interior: Wow it has the complete original Westfalia Camper interior in really nice shape, it has the z-bed (seat that folds into a bed), closets, under seat storage, the jump seat, the original table even the icebox and sink! It still has the original matching spare tire cover. The front seats are complete but could use a recover.
The pop top is still functional with all hardware present. The canvas material does need replacement.
The drivetrain probably needs gone through, the previous owner did say the engine only has about 100 miles on the rebuild, I have not tried to start it (really need to change the fluids and stuff before you try to get it running). I did verify the engine is not locked up (I turned it a bit by hand).
The good thing about this barn find is it has very minor rust (compared to most of these old Volkswagens). It came from California (now located in Arkansas, near Branson Missouri) and has not been driven in the winter/ salt roads. It has some minor surface rust around the bottom (I tried to get good pictures all around), but the frame and even the jack points look really good. It does have some rust in the front floor (easily patch or replaced) and the worst rust is around the windshield (see pictures), the windshield is cracked and needs replaced but the rest of the glass is good.
The brakes are surprisingly not locked up and it rolls, the old tires are even holding air. So it should be easy to load onto a trailer. Shipping is the buyer’s responsibility.
I have the California Pink title in hand from 1987.
