Description:

1971 Volkswagen Squareback

Selling this mint 1971 Volkswagen Squareback. It looks and drives just like it did when it was new. The exterior looks like new, and could have been repainted at some point - but it's hard to tell from original it is that good. There are no dings or scratches at all - only a couple tiny chips, hardly worth mentioning. The chrome bumpers are nearly perfect, I did replace the rear due to a small dent. Some of the rubber seals have been replaced and even the chrome around the windows looks good. There is one small ding in one of the side trim pieces, but that is it. The plastic light lenses look good and are clear and uncracked. The emblems are not corroded and the wipers look perfect as well. The wheels were sandblasted, primered and repainted, and new correct white wall tires mounted. The hubcaps are original - not reproductions and are near perfect. The underside is solid, original and totally rust free. The trunk area looks like new and has the original card liner. The spare is original as is the jack and tool kit. All of the glass is original and free of cracks and defects. The interior is completely original. The front and rear seats are perfect with no worn spots or discoloration. All of the factory seat belts are in place and working (the rear set is under the seat). The rear storage area rubber mat was replaced as was the rear seat handle (not pictured). There is a very small tear in the rear corner of the headliner, but other than that the interior is perfect. All of the gauges and lights work as they should - I did replace the fuel gauge sender. Notes in the original owners manual show the speedometer being replaced showing 25,055 miles (pictured) and the current reading is at 12,450 which I believe to be accurate. The original clock does not work. The car did not come with a radio and has the correct plug in the antenna hole. I'll include an antenna if a radio is desired. Mechanically, the original fuel injection was replaced with dual carbs for reliability. All of the original components will go with the car. The distributor, fuel pump and regulator were all replaced. New plugs, wires, distributor cap and points were just installed. The car runs, shifts and drives excellent. The ride is very smooth with no unnecessary rattles. The car will eventually need a muffler as it still has the one it came with in 1971.

Like all of the cars I sell - this is not a PROJECT. I try and represent all my vehicles as honestly as possible so there are no issues after the sale. You can find out more about me and my cars at volkswagengarage. If you have any questions, my name is Mark and I can be reached at 239-292-2370.

Here are several recent testimonials:

Eric B.

"I love the GTI I bought from Mark. The car was in fantastic condition and drives just as good as it did in 1984 - I'm amazed at how quickly it starts every time I turn the key. This was my first time buying a car sight-unseen (I live in California) but his communication was such that I never had any worries about trust at all. He's also been great about answering any questions I have and I know I can count on his help down the road."

Erik W.

"I purchased a 1989 Cabriolet from Mark for my wife, and we couldn't be happier with our decision. Mark makes the used car buying experience very easy. He is only a phone call or text away if you have any questions about the vehicle or the process of purchasing a vehicle. It's tough buying a car online, sight unseen, but Mark answered every single question I had honestly. It's good to know how much pride he takes in working on these vehicles and that there are still trustworthy people to buy used cars from. Thanks Mark”.

"Buying from Mark was the smartest decision I've ever made when it comes to cars. Mark stands out from others due to his quick responses, readiness to help, and knowledge about the cars he works on. The car arrived and was even nicer than I expected! He's very passionate about these cars, and he's a wealth of knowledge. I would highly recommend him!"

Mark C.

"I couldn't be happier with the GTI. I have no reservations or regrets after purchase which is a surprise to most people. There's plenty of horror stories out there about people buying cars on eBay or other websites that don't see the car prior to purchase. Mark is different. I feel He's an honest guy and he went out of his way to help me with making it easy.”

Reid C.

"It's only been two weeks, but I am very happy with the Cabriolet which I bought for my wife. It had only 40,000 miles (Carfaxed) despite being a 1988, and the interior especially is immaculate. Best of all, Mark has been a great communicator. Any questions I have, he responds promptly. He doesn't just make the sale and then hide with his money. I know I can count on him regarding any questions I have today or six months from now.”

"I have been restoring old Volkswagens to original condition as a hobby for over forty years and have bought cars from many people. I take pride in making sure the cars are right when I am finished with them. I wanted to buy a water cooled Volkswagen that I could just drive and enjoy. The 1993 Volkswagen Cabriolet that I bought from Mark is a wonderful car and it is exactly what he described to me. I have to say that after all these years he is on my gold list of respectable people. These days when so many people are scamming others it is nice to know one who can be trusted and is very honest. Mark made my purchase a pleasure and for the first time I was able to buy a car without any worries!”

And this guy...Mark C.

"I recently bought a 1993 Cabriolet from Mark - he had completely gone through it for a friend, but fortunately I was able to purchase the car. I had it shipped up from Florida to my home in Michigan and a day later I left for California. The car ran like a champ with not one issue...it ran strong the whole way. Mark will answer all and every question you may have (some not even pertaining to the car.) God knows I drove him nuts...I'm sure he won't forget this Michigander for some time! Thanks Mark, you're the best.”
