1971 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic
This is your next car. You didn't think it'd be anything special, but you decided to check it out. Then, when you saw it, something about it spoke to you. Maybe it was the vintage German vinyl smell. Or maybe it was the whistling sound that came from the archaic yet timeless engine as you skittered down the back roads just outside town, not so much struggling to go up hill as it was gently suggesting you take in the scenery at its full value. In any circumstance, you haggled with the young man that owned it, persuading him that you loved it as much, if not more, than he did. It was now yours. And then, after a few days, it broke down. You didn't know what to do at first, 'oh god' you thought, as eighteen wheelers and SUVs whizzed by you on the highway, which your GPS told you would be "the faster route", 'I don't have triple A'. But when you opened the hood and remembered that the engine is in the back, you closed the front trunk and opened the real hood. The belt had flown off and was laying next to the engine, well away from its' mother pulley system. You went back to the frunk and peeled up the mat, hoping for some sort of tool kit. You then spied a loose screwdriver through the slots in the rim. It was a reach, but tool in hand you returned to the engine and pried the dirty ring of rubber back into place. It felt notably more like fixing a tractor than a car. After wiping off the grime, you got back in and turned the key. The starter clicked, then you noticed the lights in the dash dimmed slightly. 'Sh*t'. You remembered your grandfather telling you about a way to start a car with a manual transmission that didn't involve the key... directly, at least. Was it "kick starting"? No, you recalled, that's motorcycles. It started with a B... Bump! You put your foot outside the car and started rolling it forward. Then, you shifted into 2nd gear, and abruptly let your foot off of the clutch. As soon as you did, the engine was on. It didn't start, it just began running, and you were now going about 25 with your door open, the hood open, and the seat belt dragging on the ground beside you. In a mild panic, you stomped on the brakes and the clutch at the same time, 'At least', you thought to yourself again, this time in elation, 'It's running'.
I can't entertain any trades at this time. Runs and drives great for its' age. See pictures, contact for questions. Located in Oregon.
