This is a highly desirable year and model westy camper! It is the only year 12v split window bus. It has reverse lights, big nut trans, highly functional camper conversion with poptop and all the late model goodies. It is also a walk through model.
This bus is a survivor. It has it's original engine, transaxle and 75% of it's original pearl white paint. The bus has plenty of character and patina. It runs, drives and stops. : ) The bus is a full westfalia camper and is in well above average condition. This is a tourist delivery VW which means it was picked up in Germany by it's American buyers, driven around Europe on vacation and then shipped back to US! It comes with the original Euro plate.
The bus is overall very solid for an unrestored vehicle of its age. The body is in great shape overall. The underside was undercoated when new and is remarkably solid. Notable rust areas are the outer cargo rocker, the inner bottoms of the cargo doors, the bottoms of the "A" pillars where they meet the floor, a small area of the driver's side outer rocker, a few spots in the bottom of the front apron could be patched and the battery tray. The center of the battery tray was rusty, I cut that out and installed a new tray on top of that. It's solid. Other than surface rust here and there the bus is amazingly clean.
This classic Volkswagen runs and drives well. It has never left me stranded. The bus is fun to drive and one could leave it like it is or do a mechanical restoration if desired. The original engine and transmission both leak a bit of fluid and could be resealed (Just marking it's spot!) The transmission stays in all gears and runs great but you will often get a chirp of the gears going into 2nd and 3rd, it hasn't been signficant enough to warrant rebuilding yet. The engine has run nicely for me. I installed 3 oversized head studs where three had worked their way loose a couple years ago. This engine is pre case savers and when it gets rebuilt in the future, the rebuilder will want to install them as is typical. When I got the bus over 4 years ago I went throuh the brakes, suspension and other systems to get it running well. It got new soft brake lines, brake cylinders and shoes. I installed new tie rods, shocks, gas tank, etc. The tires have good tread but are a tad dry/old. The bus drives well overall. One other thing I would do at some point if I were keeping it is to rebuild the steering box or put in a new center pin as there is a little extra play in the steering wheel. I am trying to be thorough here!
The rare model original radio is there and it has a new, wolfsburg west speaker and mount but the radio will need to be seviced. I have installed a vintage aftermarket under dash radio which works nicely! This bus has the rare red tip antenna which is ideal if you want to install safari windows. All interior panels are original except the front door panels which are werksberg abs. The bus has been nicely treated with sound deadener in the rear which significantly cut down on engine noise in the cabin. The curtains are correct reproductions and the front seats have been restored with factory correct material. The original pop top canvas is there and is fragile with tears. The poptop seal has been replaced.
It is located in Jacksonville, Alabama (half way between Atlanta and Birmingham). It has a current registration in my name and has an RV tag. Alabama (along with Georgia and a number of other states) doesn't issue or require titles for vehicles this old. If you live in a non title state for older cars, a bill of sale is all you need to register. If you live in a title state, you need to make sure that a bill of sale and a copy of registration will allow you to register the vehicle. The buyer is responsible for this. The bus is for sale to American buyers only and it will need to be picked up from me in person. I will accept up to 10k through paypal, the buyer will need bring cash for the remaining amount. The bus is sold as is where is.
It is M Coded for a rare side ambulance step which I do have and will include, the step will need reconditioning. I also have the original side tent rails that go along the rain gutter, the original fuel pump and some other items.
This is a special VW and I hope it goes on to a new owner who will love it as much as I have.
Thanks for looking!

USA only sales as stated above please. I will not ship the bus overseas. If the US buyer wants to come buy the bus in person and transport it to another state that is fine of course. Just reiterating to be clear as there seems to be some confusion.
Thanks to everyone who as already shown interest!
