1989 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Tristar
1989 T3 Tristar Very rare unit. Those looking for a Tristar will know what the specifications of what makes a Tristar a Tristar for those that don't please take the time review Patrik's great site here: http://www.vw-tristar.com/vw.tristar.register.htm This particular Tristar is a very rare Canadian specification model. 2.1L MV engine code is US EPA compliant, auto. PS, PB, PM and PW. It spent 95% of it's life in the dry interior of beautiful British Columbia and wasn't exposed to salt. The body and chassis will attest to that. I've spent my life around cars and have been around dozens of "Cali" cars and this chassis looks identical to that standard. The odometer shows 16xxx kms but is only 5 digits. I've run a car proof report on it and it was reported as 116xxx kms (72K miles). The truck has a clean clear history, no accidents or anything undesirable. I can email this report to interested parties. There is only one entry of KMs reported so I cannot confirm nor refute the KMs.
This is a legitimate Tristar. The dash, B pillar, build sticker and M-code plate all have matching VINs. Also the build sticker has the Sonderausstattung/operational equipment sticker affixed to it. It starts, runs and drives great. The engine has 2 newer cylinder heads and full cooling system service. Recently (post photos) it received a complete tune up; all fuel injection hoses with proper rated hose and FI clamps also all four injectors received 2 new O-rings each; all fluids (brake, coolant, engine oil and trans); full mechanical inspection and replacement as necessary; brakes are 90% or better; all lights work properly, both heaters work properly, wipers etc. It has 17" mercedes steel wheels with proper sized and rated tires- nicely subtle OEM pluslook in my humble opinion. I updated the very feeble DOT spec headlamps to the far superior H4 headlamps. These are factory units and in very nice condition. Wired properly. This truck was painted 3-4 years ago. It was well done. Not quite show level but above the par of the daily driver. The photos clearly depict this. The bed is very straight so it would appear this truck has spent it's life as a driver not a work truck. Aluminum gates are straight and clean. The treasure chest doors open and close easily and the treasure chest cavity is in great shape. The interior is completely stock Tristar. If you have ever driven a stock T3 Transporter commercial DoKa or SiKa and then jump into a Tristar it is like driving a modern car in the comfort level and noise level- so quiet! The interior shows quite well. All Tristar specific items are intact. Given its age it is very nice shape with very little wear. A small nick in the RF seat bottom and some spots on the LF carpet. It appears to have had floor mats its whole life as the carpet looks great other than a couple wear areas. One key works all exterior locks and handles as well as the ignition switch.
The truck is well sorted and is ready to be pressed into daily driver service. I'll let the photos do the remainder of the talking. I have plenty more photos than what is shown here. Clean clear title. I have plenty of experience with exportation and will work with international buyers.
The truck is physically located in Sarnia Ontario Canada N0N 1C0. 10 miles from the US border city of Port Huron Michigan 48060. Thanks for looking. | |

Due to the volume of questions I am getting about importing this Tristar into the USA I thought I'd update my auction.
This truck is well over the 25 year old mark that US Customs mandates for vehicle imports. This means it's a straight import. So fly in and I'll set the buyer up with the proper paperwork and they can handle a personal entry- which is the cheapest method of import. The second option, if pick up is not feasible is to ship: door to door. This will require a broker to handle the paperwork. I can arrange all of this but the costs associated are the buyers. Shipping will be $1000-2500 depending on where the buyer is in the lower 48. My broker is very fair with their rates.
The closest major US airport is Detroit metro. There is an airport shuttle service that will bring you right to my property.
I've been asked about a 3rd party inspection. Yes, of course this can be arranged but it must be done PRIOR to auction end.
