Description:
1984 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon
1984 VW Vanagon with a '92 Subaru Legacy engine conversion. I bought this Vanagon from a German dealer in Las Vegas with 165,801 miles on the original VW engine. I had it transported to Colorado by freight. A month after I bought the van it overheated going up a mountain pass and the engine was blown. I was devastated. Then I heard that Subaru engines fit into a VW Vanagon. I found a local auto recycling center ( Blackjack's ) in Delt, Co who had been buying and selling used Subaru engines from Japan for 25 years. All the engines they purchase are guaranteed to have under 50,000 miles on them. So I bought a 92 Subaru Legacy engine from them and a Subaru/VW conversion kit from Kennedy Engineered Products ( KEP ) and found a local mechanic expert who was willing to do the conversion for me. I have all of the paperwork from the conversion. I have been thrilled with the results of the Subaru engine. I have been using Synthetic Oil and have driven under 12,000 miles on the Subaru engine. The Van drives smooth and without hesitation through the Colorado mountains. It has great power and I have had no problems with it. The synthetic oil has been changed every 5,000 miles.I am selling the van because I am building a tiny house and need the funds to help with this project. I have loved this van for over 12 years. I hope someone else will enjoy it as much as I have. The interior is clean. The fridge does not work and never has since I bought it. Instead I use a 10-day ORCA cooler. It fits right under the back seat when the bed is down. The stove is not currently working but it worked till about 6 months ago. It needs a new regulator. I have used my Coleman stove as a replacement. There is a water tank with a pump. The pump worked fine the last time I tried it.The pop-top canvas has one tiny tear in it that had previously been patched and the small screen has several small rips in it. But the whole of the canvas itself is in quite good shape although it shows signs of 34 years of wear. The seal for the vent in the roof has never leaked even in torrential rain. It's the original seal so although it looks pretty worn, it works perfectl, so I have been hesitant to replace it. The heater works great. The wipers work fine. The tires have about 15,000 miles on them. The windows are tinted from when it was in Las Vegas. I am also including a new set of privacy curtains for the front window and the driver side and passenger side windows.Things to consider :The driver's seat upholstery has worn thin in two places and the cover for the very back cushion would need to be replaced because it has ripped alongside the zipper. There is an online company called "Sewfine Interior Products" who specializes in custom upholstery for VW's and other vehicles. The sliding door interior door cover has a few tears in it and you would probably want to replace it although it has been fine as is all these years. It still functions perfectly so this would be a cosmetic preference. (There are several replacement options from plain to rather fancy.) I use Van Cafe, Bus Depot or GoWesty for most accessories I have purchased. Between them, I have been able to acquire whatever I have needed. I know there are other online companies as well. Please contact me with any other questions.jude
