Description:
1969 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic
1969 VW Beetle with the Auto Stickshift option. This was a 20 year old barn find and the owner was a serious bug fan but passed away before having the chance to restore. I was told he owned numerous bugs but sold them all (except this one) before he passed. When I stumbled upon it, I was buying a truck from grandson of the same owner who inherited the cars. The whole time I was talking with him, his phone was blowing up with people calling about it from a facebook listing. Curious as to why the heavy interest in a plain looking old bug that obviously needed extensive restoration, he mentioned the odd transmission. It was a stick with no clutch. I own a body shop and normally don't deal with bugs but was intrigued by the "auto stickshift". I've never seen one before but was curious enough and realized the rarity so I bought it. It took a while for my mechanics to figure out exactly how the shifting mechanism worked but we finally got it repaired and working properly. We then preceded to get it in good mechanical and structural condition. here is a list of all that was done:new gas tank and sending unitrebuilt carbrepaired exhaust
new floor pans and custom hand fabricated rockers panels
hoses and wiring replaced to make the auto clutch engage
new tires
new running boards
complete electrical revamp to make headlights and tail lights work
new brake hoses, wheel cylinders and brake shoes
complete engine and transmission fluid flush
I thought the "rustic look" was pretty cool the way the car has aged so I decided not to repaint it. I have also not done anything with the interior other than some general re-stitching to keep the seats together. There are still several things that it will need other than cosmetics such as bracket work to make the gas pedal mount properly, there is an engine oil drip I haven't identified but it's a VERY slow drip and there are still a few rust pin holes to be addressed. However, the car can be driven anywhere you'd like to go and is now mechanically sound.
Please ask questions but know that I am not a classic beetle expert but will try to answer the best I can.
Good luck bidding!
