VW Vanagon 1987 gas water boxer
1987 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon
Her name is Schildkröte (german word for turtle) :)
she is slow but a sweet ride.
repainted green (over white) with a single stage paint.
replaced bushings and other front end components. (Go Westy parts)
replaced fuel tank, (from Van Again)
New fuel lines, fuel gauge, fuel pump. (Go Westy parts installed according to their recommendations )
Cleaned injectors.
Replaced rear drum brake components (Go Westy parts)
2 sets of wheels and tires. All season Continentals on GoWesty aluminum rims for summer and A set of Go Westy steel rims for winter. (only ran it occationally for one winter)
Added VW shoulder belts to the rear seats.
Custom wood roof rack.
Engine was rebuilt once. tranny was rebuilt once.
About 110,000 miles on the engine and tranny. odometer stopped. body has about 240,000 miles on it. there is some superficial rust at the seams. undercarriage is very clean, and has been undercoated. the Vanagon was originally in Georgia, then Ohio, then NY. was only on the road last winter.
We mostly drove it from skaneateles to syracuse and a few trips to buffalo and the adirondecks. We have a duece and a half and while in the adirondecks found a really cool old boat. (the boat needs to be refinished) We would love to do a bunch more stuff with the vanagon but as you can see we have more projects then we have room for.
