Eurovan Weekender, runs good, recent timing belt and transmission service
1993 Volkswagen EuroVan MV
This section is basically a continuation from the condition description. The battery was replaced on 5/15.Got a new stereo (Sony am/fm, usb port, no CD but with remote) and front door speakers. The other speakers do not function; they were rotted out, probably original. Curtains are in excellent shape, including the snap on that goes around the front doors and windshield.Replaced 2 or 3 broken cup holders.Replaced rear reading lights, they are run by a secondary battery which is under the driver’s seat. I don’t know how old the battery is but looks to be in good shape and has been holding a charge. The snap out table is fixed; one side of the table’s connection point broke so I fixed it with gorilla glue.Should that break again, I would recommend drilling a hole through the table and use a flat head bolt for a secure connection.Oil change is up to date (last done 4/16, mileage 149,917), last passed state inspection 04/17.Have all Owner’s manuals plus a VW transporter service manual. Has a class 5 trailer hitch.New driver’s side door handle with keys that fit that door only. Electronic door locks work, no FOB.All 4 tires are in good shape, tread depth average is Lincoln’s eyes.Doesn’t burn or use oil. No leaks of any sort are evident.Transmission was just serviced on 9/6/17, no issues noted, power steering checked, they did note rusty lines and added fluid but noted no leaks.
Cruise control works, just have to hold the set button for a couple of seconds before it kicks in. Windshield has rock damage that had been repaired when we bought it, passes NH state inspection (see photo).A/C does not work, we had it charged, it worked for a while then quit blowing cold so there is a probable leak. Gas gauge works, temp doesn’t, it is the circuit board behind the gauges, notorious for having cold solder joints for the gas gauge/temperature gauge.A used circuit board runs about $150 on Ebay and there is an excellent circuit board replacement video on U-Tube.All seats (can seat 7) are installed.Minor rust and some undercarriage rust(see photos). Engine splash shied noted to being held on by 2 of the 4 bolts (during tranny service), it is actually1 of 4, 3 of the frame nuts were stripped. I rigged 2 more bolts as a temp fix, would recommend trying a tap and die on the stripped nuts and going with the next size bolt. Any questions, just ask, I think I have hit everything here though.
Oh, the pop up canvas is probably original, while not great, it didn't leak and it still functional.
