I just purchased this beautiful Ken Allison buggy not two months ago. My wife surprised me with a new convertible and I just don't have room or time for this. So..... My loss is your gain. Below is all the information about this buggy. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. My email is gpersten@tisinspects.com Phone number is 845-667-9439. Bidding starts at $1000.00 with a fair reserve. Good luck to the lucky winner of this beauty! I will deliver this within a 100 mile radius of Callicoon NY.
History
The buggy was assembled by an electrical engineer who worked for NASA in 1998 from Lancaster, A. I purchased it from him in May 2014. He acquired the original virgin Ken Allison fiberglass body from a friend who had it in storage in Florida. The body was left in storage untouched since the early 80s when it was manufactured until it was built in 1998.
Body
Anyone familiar with buggy history knows how special the Ken Allison body is. Allison began building fiberglass bodies in the 70s in Florida (there were no East Coast manufacturers at the time) to compete with Meyers. The Allison bodies were known for their hand laid quality and thickness of the panels. The fiberglass on Allisons are much thicker than Meyers and subsequently last much longer with less cracking. Ken Allison died in 1987 in a plane crash and production halted. This makes the bodies extremely rare and collectible today (especially compared to Meyers and other knock-offs)
This body is in perfect condition with no cracks in the fiberglass and custom orange glitter paint has a brilliant finish and looks spectacular in the sun. There is some minor paint cracking on the tan indents on the front hood but is limited to a very small area and not very noticeable. Could be touched up very easily. Has original Allison badge on the rear.
Chassis
The Allison body is mounted on a 1969 beetle frame with shortened pan. The frame is all original with no rust. Has always been garage kept and never driven in weather. Hasn’t even been off-road!
The front brakes have been upgraded to Karman Ghia disc brakes. New brakes. Wheels shine, n excellent condition. Shocks work great, rives perfect.
Tires look new, xcellent tread with no dry rot or cracking. Grip excellent. Drives perfectly straight and no vibrations even at 80mph.
Custom tow-bar included which mounts onto front-end and connects to 1-⅞” ball. I’ve only towed it once when I bought it and worked great.
Motor
The motor is an all-original 1600cc dual-port from the same 1969 beetle chassis. Valves just adjusted 100 miles ago and all set within spec. Compression check was spot-on within range and all cylinders within a few psi of each other. Timing just adjusted. New plugs and wires. New chrome air filter. Oil just changed and cleaned oil filter. Motor needs nothing and is in excellent condition.
Starts right up every time and idles great. Has a brand new solex carb on it now but I also have the original carb from the 69 motor and a rebuild kit for it.
4-speed transmission shifts perfect and with no grinding, othing irregular- never pops out of gear. Clutch only has a few thousand miles on it and grips excellent. Has Hurst shifter.
Interior
Has original VW seats and lap safety belt in excellent condition- look new. The rear deck does not have seat cushions or safety belts but could be added easily. Carpet color matches seats and in good condition. The dash is painted and looks amazing- like new. The wood dash panel is in excellent condition.
Electronics
Has key and push button start. All gauges and turn, orn, rake, nd headlights work. Will pass inspection- needs nothing. All gauges are original and look great- all functional and gauge illumination work.
Has custom hidden bluetooth sound system with 3D printed buttons and phone mount. The phone mount is custom designed for Samsung Note4 and I will custom design and 3D print one to match your phone at time of sale if requested.
Custom boxes mounted under front dash contain high-mid range speakers and sound excellent. Awesome that you can’t see them but definitely can hear them! Custom subwoofer built behind driver seat with Alpine 8” woofer. Really thumps when you crank it! Dual amplifiers behind driver and passenger seats- one for the front speakers and another for the woofer. Connects to your phone by pairing bluetooth and buttons under phone mount used to connect and volume up/down.
