Volkswagen BeetleDune Buggy
This is a very rare "Allison Daytona" "style" dune buggy. The reason I say Allison Daytona "Style" is I couldn't find a vin plate verifying the Allison name. The Allison Daytona as it was called was known to be the "Cadillac" of Dune Buggys. It was very well made with a much thicker fiberglass construction than many if not all of the buggys made in that era, The company was founded by the Ken Allison back in the 60s and was a family owned and operated business. These great little buggys were built at their factory in Port Orange, Florida....just south of Daytona Beach. I have lived in Port Orange for the last 30 plus years and know the Allison family personally. I asked Carol Allison (Kens daughter) just last Sunday to take a look at my buggy and she said that she could not say for sure if it was positively an Allison. If it is then it was modified at one time or another with a larger opening to the engine area and a different tail light configuration and dash she said. As you know many "mods" were done back in the day as this was a "kit" car on a VW Beetle chassis. This car has the very thick fiberglass like an Allison Daytona and if you look you will see the same style hood, fenders and front end. I have included some old ads of various Allison Daytonas for sale in 2012 and 2013 and they were going for up to $20000 back then! This buggy still has the "metal flake gel coat" from way back when. I have not redone the paint or gel coat and it is still in very nice condition with very few imperfections for its age. It has lasted so well I think mostly due to the thickness of the body panels and construction. It is well built and runs and drives like new! I installed a new polymer (not fiberglass like when it was built) fuel tank because the coating had cracked and come loose on the inside of the factory fiberglass one. I installed new copper fuel line (not rubber), front to back with a new electric fuel pump. When I had the front end off to replace the fuel tank I noticed the original wiring was old and spliced and replaced it also (purchased a completely new wiring harness). I removed the motor and completely re-did it with all new chrome tins, fan housing, plugs, wires, distributor, coil, carb etc, etc.... anything it needed I replaced. NO EXPENSE SPARED. I also installed brand new stainless steel headers which sound awesome! The correct 60s style aluminum wheels were on it and I pulled them and sanded and polished them and reinstalled with all new chrome lug bolts. The tires are like brand new. The speedometer, headlights, taillights (LED) horn, turn signals, emergency flasher etc all work as the should. The 1600 plus cc VW engine (looks like a recent fresh rebuild) runs awesome with loads of power. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts smooth through each gear with a very tight, not sloppy, shifter. The clutch is perfect. One turn of the key and the little bug starts right up! This great little buggy also has all 4 wheel disc brakes! I also removed the uncomfortable racing style seats and installed BRAND NEW Jeep Wrangler bucket seats in the front and a new Jeep bench seat in the rear. They are very comfortable. As you can see... you have a practically BRAND NEW dune buggy straight from the 60s !! By the way I'm 70 years old and have been in the muscle car and motorcycle restoration business my entire life so rest assured that the work was professionally done with no corners cut. Many, many hours were spent on the work that was done and that doesn't include any paint and body work because it didn't need it. If I charged for all the labor and parts it would way over price the car for sale. This was a very fun build that got carried away...like they always do if done right. So bid with confidence that you could not buy and then build this car for anywhere near my reserve. Keep in mind that this is an AUCTION so please bid what you can afford or feel you will pay. PLEASE DON'T ASK WHAT THE RESERVE IS...otherwise this wouldn't be an AUCTION it would be a BUY IT NOW. I'm not going to advertise it anywhere else until the auction ends to be fair to all bidders. I hate it when an auction ends early after I have been following it for days.. I will let it run until it ends but remember .. it is only a 3 DAY AUCTION that ends SUNDAY EVENING. If we start getting close I may LOWER the RESERVE so bid ... you never know! YOU MAY WIN A FUN PIECE OF HISTORY. Thanks for reading this NOVEL and good BIDDING.
GOD BLESS THE USA.

ALSO GOOGLE "ALLISON DAYTONA DUNE BUGGYS"... there's a lot of info out there THAT'S VERY INTERESTING. ALLISON DAYTONA also has an older FACE BOOK page loaded with pics and info. The Allison family are wonderful people that built about 500 or so of these great fun little cars!! I would never state anything that I don't know for sure so you decide if it's an ALLISON DAYTONA !!
Please note that this buggy is titled in Florida as a 2008 ASPT (assembled from parts) assigned serial number FLA60752. I checked the vin # on the VW chassis and believe it was a 1971. eBays systemwouldn't accept the vin # and 2008 as the year so I had to put in 1971 to list the car. Thanks. It has a street legalclear Florida title.
