Rebuilt engine with overdrive
1973 Triumph Spitfire
1973 Triumph Spitfire. 1500CC motor. Recent high-performance engine rebuild. Flat top pistons 20 over with new rings. Professionally rebuilt head by Morgans Machine Shop in Walnut Creek. The head has the larger valves, and it has been skimmed and has dual valve springs. Dual timing chain. "B" cam from TSI Imports. New lifters. Crank polished. New bearings. Rebuilt SU's imported from England. Header. No oil leaks. Dual Monza Exhaust tips.Four Speed three rail transmission with rare overdrive Very nice and shiny original paint. Has some dings, scratches, and chips but still looks very nice. Amco bumper enhancements. Custom wheels with practically new tires. Air shocks mounted on the rear. Drives like a bat out of hell. I've owned a lot of Spitfires, and this is the quickest one I have ever owned. The foam in the seats has degenerated and the seats will have to be rebuilt at some time. The carpet is nice but it's missing the piece where the drivers' feet go. The top is OK. It has a top boot cover and a tonneue cover. The transmission will slightly grind when shifting from 3rd to 4th unless you double clutch. Once you do it a few times (double clutching), it becomes second nature. Registration is current and recently paid. Smog is not required.

Question form ebayer
Dear elfstar1,I just went outside and put the top up. I hadn't had it up in at least five years. It looked excellent, no holes or tears. The plastic windows are clear with very little scratches. I've added a picture of the top.
I've owned this car since around 2011. I originally bought it on ebay from a long term owner that lived in Davis, CA. One reason I bought it is I loved the color and the bumpers plus it had overdrive. It also didn't require smog in CA and the 79 I owned at the time did.
I started the rebuild in 2018 and didn't move very quickly because I also had a 68 Spitfire that I drive all the time plus I got lazy with this one and didn't feel like working on it. It's always been in my garage and never driven in rain. I'm selling it because I'm moving to FL.
If I were keeping it, I would put in new carpet and have the seats upholstered in black. I would replace the exhaust system with a 4-2-1 header and SS exhaust through out. The Monza exhaust is very loud and its fastened directly to the frame. It clanks every time it hits a bump. The turn signals are not working. I've fixed these in the past by removing the flasher switch on the dash and cleaning it. Probably needs that again.
I like the original look and would not paint it. The paint is good with only a few scratches and dents. It does have scratches and some dents on the top left fender. Look close at the pictures and you can see it.- alpine-1From:elfstar1To:alpine-1Subject:elfstar1 sent a message about 1973 Triumph Spitfire #325680105456Sent Date:Jun-03-23 17:29:06 PDTDear alpine-1,Hi,
What is the condition of the roof? Are there any repairs you were planning that a new owner should know about?
Lovely car.
Thank you,
