1972 Triumph Spitfire Mk IVVIN Numbers:Chassis - FK36492UFirewall - 16584FKEngine - FK31980UE2022 celebrated the 50th anniversary of this classic roadster. The 1972 Triumph Spitfire Mk IV was a milestone. It’s rare we get to witness the golden anniversary of any automobile, when you consider just how unique an achievement it is to survive five decades. But when you talk about the ‘72 Spitfire, it’s easy to see why this particular roadster maintains its allure and continues its journey toward immortality. This Spitfire was acquired by a seller in California who specializes in British collectables. It's been refinished in Artic White with a beige interior and as you can see, it's a good combination. the original inline-four cylinder 1296 cc, 79 cu in. engine with single Stromberg 1.50 CDSE carburetor (rebuilt in 2023) and is mated to the original four-speed manual all synchro gearbox. This Spitfire has few aftermarket modifications. The reason is simple, it doesn’t need any more. It runs like its new. The engine was never overworked from modifications, such as replacement of the original carburetor configuration. Far too often owners replace the single Stromberg unit with dual carburetors, either Stromberg or Weber. This drastic change leads to many issues, including over revving which leads to overheating and excessive wear to engine components and gearbox. The upgraded air cleaner by K&N, 1-1/2" SU, 1-3/4" deep provides much needed balance to the air/fuel mixture, plus improves idle. The Facet solid state electric fuel pump system provides reliable fuel flow and consistent pressure. Since the vehicle comes with the original manual fuel pump as a spare, the new owner can decide for themselves which works best for them.Mechanically, this Spitfire is solid, with recent service 1/19/23 to all fluids - Engine Oil, Gearbox, Differential and Radiator flush. Engine starts first crank cold w/choke, idles warm, clutch is very good and gearbox shifts cleanly in all four gears, from new shift linkage. A highlight of this Spitfire is of course the chrome work. The bumpers, which everyone knows are the best design feature of the early model years, look really good, as does the chrome trim front to back, bright work in general is in really good shape. A favorite of many are the bullet-style side mirrors, a wonderful design element unique to these early models.Additional replacement equipment includes a black convertible top, the aforementioned beige vinyl seats and floor mats. For added performance and a look that totally fits this body, mounted 13 x 5.5″ Minilite wheels on Toyo Proxes R888R 205/60/13 tires. Perfect road handling characteristics.List of new parts includes all the major safety and reliability categories; all Breaking components, Battery/Battery Cables; Oil & Air Filter; Spark Plugs and all major handling categories including Shocks, Springs, Links and Bushings. It’s truly a roadster ready for another 50 years.Happy Anniversary ‘72 Spitfire!
