Restoration process:

Exterior

From 2014 to 2018 this Triumph underwent a completerestoration. The body shell was separated from the frame. All paint and primerwas stripped from the shell. The car was already 95% rust free, but allremaining rust was addressed. While the floor pans were in fair condition, theywere both replaced.

Inner fenders and the underside of the shell were protectedwith a bed liner product. This will protect the body shell from rust for yearsto come.

Finally, the body was repainted in the original Mimosa(Bright yellow). All nooks and crannies were painted just like the factoryoriginal. The engine bay, door jams, trunk are all painted. The vertical backpanel and windscreen frame are painted in Black satin as per the original.

Front and rear bumpers were rechromed. While I did not reinstallthe big rubber bumpers, I do have them and they are included in the sale.

Frame: The frame on this car turned out to be a strongpoint. The frame was blasted and all paint and dirt were removed. The usualsuspect areas such as the “T shirt” and dog legs were inspected and judged tobe strong. The frame was “powder coated” in gloss black.

Bonnet gaps, and boot gaps are good. Boot and bonnet closewith a satisfying “thunk”. While the driver’s doorcloses securely, the alignment needs adjustment.

The convertible frame was rebuilt and repainted black. Ithas a new tan or biscuit top. It fits very tight.

All exterior glass is very good. The windshield is new. Thewindshield washer tubes are in place and are connected to the nozzles. Thewasher pump is operational.

Wheels are like new Konig. They have 4 Falken Ziex2E912tires that while they have some age (date code 3009), the tread is 9/32” on all4 tires. Tire size is 205/60r16 92H. The spare tire appears to be on theoriginal TR6 rim. I also have 4 additional OE rims and beauty rings that willgo to the buyer.

Most rubber trim was replaced.

Interior

The original interior was chestnut. A completely new biscuitinterior was installed. Carpet is new cut pile as original. Door cards are allnew. All panels in the interior are new. I choose not to reinstall the blackdoor caps. I do have them and they are in good condition.

The seats were stripped to the metal frames. The frames weresanded and painted black. The seats were completely rebuilt. New canvas strapsand foam cushions were installed. New biscuit covers were installed. Bothheadrests were also recovered.

A new black, hand brake boot was installed. The shifter/radioconsole was renewed in black. A new period correct am/fm cassette radio wasadded.

The wood dash was veneered with black walnut with a semi-glosstop coat. The foam dash pad is black with no rips or tears.

True mileage is unknown. There are approximately 300 mileson the rebuild. Speedometer and tach both work. Fuel, voltmeter, water temp andoil pressure gauges work. The car comes with a spare Smith’s speedometer thatdoes not work. The gauge lights have been converted to LED. The gauge lightrheostat is not connected to power. (Why would anyone want those gauge lightsdimmer?)

The glove box door is non locking (no key) and in good shape. A replacement glove box wasfashioned and installed.

The steering wheel is original. The frame was polished andcoated with clear lacquer. The steering wheel cover is in excellent shape. Thehorn button is new and the dual horns work as original.

New black trunk kit installed.

Mechanical

The mechanicals are a real strong point of this car. Theoriginal numbers matching engine was completely disassembled and refreshed. Theblock was cleaned, honed and check for original specs. The head was refurbishedwith all new exhaust valves and seats installed to accept today’s lead freefuel. The engine has not been bored and it has the original camshaft. The crank shaft was polished. Upon reassemblynew rings and bearings were installed. A new timing chain was installed. Newhead bolts were used in reassembly.

Current compression ratings are 138,134,135,130,132,134

Vacuum is steady at 19.8 in.

Things I would do if I kept this car

1.Put new redline tires on original steel wheels

2.Replace the chrome windscreen cap

3.Install light bar in console

4.Have the driver’s door professionally aligned
