1988 Toyota Supra

1988 Toyota Supra, manual 5-speed, non-turbo for sale. I purchased this beauty from an older man in 2000 at about 87,000 miles, and have lovingly cared for the car ever since. While it is not perfect (see pics), it is a complete, stock, and original MKIII with a great interior and good exterior. I have loved this car for the past 23 years, but now that we just had a baby (and bought a fixer-upper house), I find myself not able to give the car the attention she deserves.
Overall comments: The car starts right up, idles smooth, runs strong, and has plenty of pick-up for a non-turbo. The gear shifting is clean and tight, the suspension is good, and it still handles excellent. It's a fun ride. I have never raced this car or even driven it very hard, and it has been stored covered in a garage for the past few years - I drive it mostly on sunny Sundays. The car was my daily driver from 2000-2012, so most of the milage on it was put on some time ago, and not many miles have been put on the car since many of the repairs were made 6-10 years ago. It has been driven short distances and only in good weather for the past ten years or so.
Interior: the interior is 8/10. Cloth seats are in good condition with no tears or busted springs, and the electronic adjustable driver's seat still works. The dash is in perfect condition with no cracks or sun damage, and all vinyl in the interior is in great shape (except for a 2" crack in the vinyl on the glovebox). The original steering wheel was professionally restored, and the shifter boot is custom made from real leather. The center console upholstery is intact, and the top/armrest is fully functional. The power windows and the headlight assembly function properly.
Exterior: the exterior is 7/10. The car was professionally repainted in 2014 and has no dents, knicks, scratches or surface rust. All major body trim is intact and in good condition. The bumpers are perfect. All exterior lights, including fog lights and running lights work (with one exception: the high beams don't work UNLESS you hold them on - see below). The car comes with a brand new custom Coverking waterproof car cover worth $600.
Mechanically: the car has been maintained by the same mechanic for the past twenty years, including regular oil changes at 3000 miles (or less). It has four new General G-Max tires with less than 2000 miles on them. Timing belt, water pump, and power steering pump have been redone in past 50,000 miles, and both the master and slave cylinders on the clutch have been redone. Cam cover gaskets redone and full tune up about 5 years ago. Brakes are newer and in good condition with plenty of life left. The head gasket was redone at approx. 120,000 miles BEFORE it blew, as a preventative measure (these cars were known to have issues with the factory head gasket). The car does not leak or burn oil.
The bad:1. The gas tank will leak if over 1/2 full, so I have been only filling it 1/4 at a time for the past year with no problems. I believe the leak is coming from the seam in the tank. The new owner could investigate having a company seal the tank or replacing the tank.2. The AC does not work (it currently has the original R-12). I'm not sure of the problem, but it might be time to upgrade to R-134.3. The little window trim on both doors is in poor shape (see pics) and the trim around the windshield needs to be painted or replaced. The rear hatchback window trim was replaced and is in good condition though.4. There is no radio antenna (it was removed from vehicle because broken). You could replace or simply plug the hole (see pic). However, the brand new CD player works perfect and has usb plug for phones.5. The power door locks do not work, but they do manually lock and unlock just fine.6. The gas tank release lever is a bit tricky, and you need to have someone hold it while you gently pull open the gas tank door on the opposite side of the car (or wedge you wallet under the switch like I do). Could be a line that needs to be tightened? It still works though (kinda).7. The high beams don't work unless you hold them on (but the headlights do work otherwise, and in most areas, you don't need the high beams).... I think that's it, but please keep in mind that it is a 35 year old car. I have tried to be very transparent about the problems with the car and have factored those issues into my asking price.
Overall, this a very nice, unmodified example of a 1988 Supra MKIII, and will make someone very happy for years to come.
Feel free to message me with any and all questions. I hope to make this a pleasant transaction between two Supra enthusiasts.
