1988 Toyota Pickup

TOYOTA XTRACAB SR-5 4×4.

Great, Fantastic project truck. Has the R22-E fuel injected bullet proof motor, and a 5-speed manual transmission. All stock, and it has about 195k or so. Talk about highway miles though; Probably 95% + of the miles on this truck are highway miles....no exaggeration. Almost no short drives !

Motor, drivetrain, and frame are rock solid, ( no issues ), ( you can even still read factory printed lettering on frame ), which is really cool. ... but outside lower sheet metal, behind doors, and quarter panel outside sheet metal leaves alot to be desired. And That is the project to be addressed. What great bones it has though ! Solid, Solid platform !

And mechanically, it runs and drives Great !

I'm the 2nd owner. I bought this from a maint. tech. friend / coworker who absolutely babied it for years after he bought it brand new, until he retired. He used to brag to me how many grease joints he greased by hand every few months or so. And we both religiously changed the oil ( Mobile 1 synthetic ) and more. This truck is an absolute joy to drive. Just needs body work, and some more TLC. No play or slop in the steering, suspension, or drive train at all. Has original factory radio, no cracks in dash, and what's really cool is that it has the original factory transfer case instruction plate still mounted on the dash. I kept thinking I'd restore this Toyota, but I purchased a couple jeeps, and work 90+ hours a week....so no time to spare at all. But I do know I will absolutely end up regretting selling this truck anyway ! Any questions : 219 281 1796

My friend Andy would drive this truck out west to Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Texas, and other states for two-three weeks at a time, completing 3000- 5000 mile roundtrip journeys. He probably did this at least 25 or more times, throwing a tent, sleeping bag, and equipment in the back, and just going ! If he didn't go on a long drive, he walked. No short errand drives. He worked with me into his 70's and I was honored when he retired, telling me that it was because of me that he stayed on an extra 3-4 years working. .I am honored that he wanted to, and did sell me his truck at that time also. He was the smartest and most honest man i ever had the pleasure and honor to work with. A genius at work ! And buying this truck brand new says something about him too, you would think !

Floor boards and trunk area floor and sides appear solid. Center armrest missing, one mirror needs replacing, missing a plastic cover, and door latch needs adjusting. Truck does have original wheels and locking hubs.

If any car/truck guy out there has the time, the skills, the equipment and knowledge to professionally restore this Great truck to Like New condition, I would definitely be interested in purchasing it back from you ( I shouldn't say this )..and at a very good price ! I actually hope the buyer is someone who doesn't want to keep the truck, but who just actually enjoys restoring neat, cool, vehicles...and would give ME 1st shot at buying it back, while making a good buck.
