1984 Subaru Brat

**PLEASE READ ENTIREDESCRIPTION**

Up for sale is a very wellmaintained 1984 Subaru BRAT GL. All of the desirable upgrades and hard work hasalready been done by professionals. With just a bit more effort, this littlerig will be nearly perfect!

The previous owner added manyupgrades that I consider to be most desirable. The original 4-speedtransmission was replaced with a later model 5-speed, still maintaining theHi/Lo range 4WD options. This allows the car to travel more comfortably athigher speeds without the engine spinning at higher revs. The original enginewas rebuilt by Ram Racing Engines in Blackstock, South Carolina. It is now fuelinjected and controlled by a Simple Digital System EM-5.

The vehicle has also beenmodified with an SJR 4-inch body lift. The front struts were changed to coil-oversusing the original struts and were manufactured by “Ground Control” in ShingleSprings, California. None of the body panels or wheel wells were cut out forthe modification so it can be taken back to original ride height, if desired. Therig currently sits on 16-inch Toyota 6-lug rims, however the original 13-inchrims will be included in the sale.

While this car has about 220,000miles, the body is still in overall great condition. There are typical BRATrust spots in the bed, as well as, one spot on the tailgate and driver’s sidedoor. Other than that, the paint and decals are in excellent condition. Theseats have been reupholstered and are in excellent shape. The carpet is stilloriginal without blemishes. The rear sliding windows and removable t-tops workas they should. The radio has been replaced, however the original AM/FM radiowhich matches the blue console will be included in the sale. The tow hitch andfront brush guard are both original factory options.

Also included with the sale are aVista brand bed topper and two pairs of jump seats, each with their own set ofseat belts.

To my understanding I am thethird owner of this car. It was originally purchased in Indiana; transplantedto southern California, where it lived most of its life; and then sold andtransplanted to northern Illinois, where I purchased it, before moving tonorthern Wisconsin. I can say for certain that between the previous owner and myself,it has almost always been garaged.

This BRAT will start and run;however, there does appear to be an electrical issue that will sometimesinterfere with starting. It’s beyond my ability to diagnose and fix; but I willsay that it seems to be running partially or entirely on battery power. I triedreplacing the alternator; but continued having the same issue, so my best guessis that there is a short somewhere. Towing is highly recommended if purchasing fromoutside of the area, as it’s available for local pickup only.
