FRESH BUILD, SMEDING PERFORMANCE 427 V8, TREMEC TKO600, SHARP AND POWERFUL, WOW!
1965 Shelby Daytona Factory Five Type 65 Coupe
This 1965 Shelby Daytona Factory Five coupe is the fresh build with all the best in new components. So look over everything from the performance-built 560 hp V8, to the full competition chassis. Soon you'll discover a professionally-built machine that's ready to attack the tracks, but is still legal enough to hang a license plate off the back. There's less than 400 miles on this build, so you know everything looks fresh. In fact, the consignor is a...Cobra collector, but didn't have the heart to take this sleek machine out on the track. That's why this one might have racing stripes, but the blue paint still has a terrifically sleek presentation. And the way the light rolls so smoothly across the quality Factory Five panels reminds you of why Carroll Shelby created this car in the first place. The Daytona Coupe was all about re-skinning the Cobra to make it cheat the wind and go faster. So when you want a proper Daytona, you need the details to be right. That means covered headlights, deep-diving hood aerodynamics, fire-breathing side pipes, big back window, tall spoiler, and a flat rear end (the real secret to why this cheats the wind.) While this has the right classic look, the bright Steeda 18-inch alloys also signal that this has been built to the best modern standards, too. The interior has an instant race-ready attitude with a touch of refinement and luxury. Bucket seats, Simpson racing harnesses, padded door panels, and a machine-turned metal dash full of crisp AutoMeter gauges, everything you want is here. The dash even has the signature of Allen Grant, a member of the 1965 Shelby racing program that won the world championships! You get a grippy wood and chrome steering wheel and the gearshift is in the ideal driver's position. And while this one is race-ready there's also heat and air conditioning to upgrade your classic racer experience. What makes any Cobra a true track monster is the right motor. So when you tilt the hood forward, you'll be happy to see a Smeding performance 427 cubic-inch V8. It's a competition-ready build that features a Dart racing block, steel splayed four-bolt main caps, diamond-honed torque plates, one piece rear main, forged steel stroked crankshaft, forged steel H-beam connecting rods, hydraulic roller camshaft, AFR aluminum valves, D-shaped cup pistons with Moly rings, and 10.2:1 compression. It inhales deeply with a custom-calibrated Quick Fuel 750 CFM four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with authority as headers feed the growling side pipes. This full package is rated at a monster 560 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. Making sure the power gets to the ground is a strong Tremec TKO600 five-speed manual transmission that feeds a strong Ford 9-inch rear. These Daytonas have the same race-bred suspension as the Cobra. So you have a strong tubular chassis, independent A-arm front suspension, and tubular trailing arm rear with stabilizer bars. Plus, at each wheel you have adjustable coilovers, modern ZR-rated tires, and Ford Racing disc brakes. There's so much that went into this fresh build that we don't have the room to list it all, so call for all the details. We'll even share the huge file of buildsheets, owner's manual, and build photos that come with the sale. This is a legendary track dominator that was built to uphold the legacy properly.
