Description:

1980 Pontiac Trans Am Pro Touring Roadster

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DESCRIPTION - VEHICLE IS NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING.
This is a one-of-a-kind custom Trans Am Roadster. Vehicle was an original factory ordered 1980 Firebird Trans Am T-Top. The convertible conversion was authorized by GM through National Coach Engineering (NCE) in Michigan. I have literature on the process to order through NCE and will be included in the sale. Vehicle documented and known to be #15 that NCE built into a convertible in 1980.
This is a Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) documented vehicle and paperwork will be included with the sale. Actual copy of window sticker is included in the photos.
A previous owner purchased the vehicle in a sad shape and completely had the car rebuilt from the ground up. Vehicle was stripped to bare metal and fabricated in total sheet metal - no fiberglass was used around the rear seat area. Photos of car stripped are included.
Some highlights of the rebuild are:
Engine is a true 400 YS Block w/ 68 72cc heads. Full Edelbrock performer set up. Dished pistons. Demon 750 CFM carburetor. Harland sharp rollers. MSD Billiet distributor and MSD 6 box hidden under dash. Jim Butler valve covers. Rodney Read radiator. March serpentine system. TH350 Automatic transmission with B&M stall and shift kit. Richmond 3.73 gears. Flow Master exhaust with Pypes tubes. Baer Sport Brakes in red dash zinc powder coating. Front and rear Edelbrock IAS shocks. Year One 17x9 Rims on BFGoodrich rubber. Smoother firewall.
Now the not so good: Memorial Day 2023 - 2 miles from my home in Georgetown on Hwy 17, the engine dumped oil, smoked, made a clacking noise and cut off. I DID NOT try to restart it. Instead, I had it towed to my home and place in my garage.
I have not had the engine looked at by anyone to date. I was considering having it towed to a local garage for repairs but have decided to sell it "as is" instead. I did some "GOOGLE" research on the type of engine the vehicle has and discovered if the motor needs to be rebuilt, the kit runs around $900 to $1200. Not bad for a do-it-yourself weekend mechanic. As that is not me, further research indicates a rebuild from a qualified mechanic would run between $3000 and $4000.
Prior to Memorial Day, I was going to sell the vehicle with an asking price of $70,000. There is well over $100K worth of work and parts on the vehicle as it sits. My current "as is" asking price is $56,000. I will entertain a reasonable offer for a serious buyer. Title is clean and clear. Vehicle is currently insured by Hagerty Classic Auto for $80K guaranteed replacement value at a yearly rate of $902.
This is a custom roadster and has NO top. Good weather driver only. Always garage kept under car cover. Mileage posted is what is showing on odometer since the vehicle rebuild.
Vehicle can be seen in Georgetown SC by appointment only. Any questions, please ask.
