1983 Pontiac Firebird Se

This car was special ordered during the late end of the fuel crisis and speed limit of 55! It was ordered because the previous owner knew that the 1982-pre "roll-out" would have issues like all the first year model change roll-outs. The previous owner loved the look of the car, and thought of it as his "poor mans Porsche". The practicallity he was after was in the handling more than shear power.

It came with all the "high performance" package.

Almost 16 years later from initial purchase date the owner was introduced for the chance to upgrade the engine to the Corvette LT-1 engine and drivetrain that provided 6 speed transmission and more horse power on an 8 cylinder engine. The car was upgraded by a shop who professinally upgraded Federal government vehicles for modifying SUVs for high performance chase and evasive missions.

From there the previous owner got involved in further modifications for high performance road track events and started to participate in High Performance Road Track training and Driving Experience events with the Porsche Club of America.

The vehicle was modified using various local shops and an experienced racing shop to add heavy duty sway bars, adjustable rear springs, adjustable front McPherson struts, adjustable camber plate by "Ground Control", a ladder brace between the rear engine support and the differential. Four point roll bar was installed. It was set up to run and drive as a track ready road course vehicle.

Had the car repainted and the basic new interior replacement, the previous owner had the A/c compressor removed, a racing power steering pump and reservoir installed. The exhaust was modified to true dual exhaust and bigger pipe for less back pressure creating more power. Every original piece on the vehicle was analog and has been upgraded to 1997 digital. The instrument panel ad to be replaced in that process so the mileage most likely not correct on the vehicle. Again this is a RACE CAR!

Wheels, high speed runs on a road course are very hard on standard brake systems, so they added bigger wheels with space for bigger brakes with more pistons to slow the vehicle faster. So there are two sets of special wheels that are both street legal and track legal. One set has high performance street tires, that work well in the rain. The other set is worn but still very serviceable racing tires that will NOT work on a wet track. The slicks are mounted and balanced on a duplicate set of rims and both sets go with the vehicle. The wheel stud assembly’s (lugs) are modified with "high speed" studs for easy quick change of tires. (While Racing) This vehicle has been highly modified to be driven around a challenging road course, its honest and reponsive. Great low eng torque.
