Description:

1949 Pontiac Chieftain

A very nicely done, frame on restoration. Previous owner was very meticulous about this car. He kept everything as close to stock as possible. Right down to the 6 volt system, but with a perfectly tuned motor, the straight 8 will fire right up without hesitation. Once it's warmed up it runs out strong. The hydramatic transmission shifts through all the gears just like it's supposed to. Forward, low, high and reverse. The restoration work is thought to be over 20 years old, but it has since been garage kept and well maintained. The previous owner took pride in keeping everything working just the way it was originally designed to be. All the gauges seem to be reading correctly and even the vacuum windshield wipers are working well. I have not been able to get the radio to work. It comes on, but I can't get a sound out of it. That's about the only thing on the car that doesn't work. The undercarriage has signs of surface rust but nothing major, as I said, it was not an off frame restoration. This is not a trailer queen, but it is an above average driver quality car. You have to get up close on it and really look hard to nit-pick the flaws. The chrome and all the bright work is in very good condition. I did not even polish the car up for the pictures. It could look even better with a fresh wax and some chrome polish.
