1978 Pontiac Firebird Base

Up for auction is a nice 78 Firebird base coupe. This is NOT a matching numbers car. It has a Chevy big block 400 inside and unsure of the transmission although it shifts and runs perfectly. Actual mileage is unknown. Thecar is perfect to make into a Trans Am clone or to simply use as a pleasure cruiser as it is. Could even be a daily driver if you choose to repair the floor boards as they do need some work. I know this from the car wash or being caught in the rain, although I have not pulled the carpets back to inspect in the years I have owned the car. I do not drive the car in the rain or snow and it is always garaged so that is less important to me. The trunk is solid with no rot or holes. There is some surface rust alongthe trunk edge where it meets the rear window and a spot on the lower passenger rocker panel where the chromestrip is attached. Neither are serious and there are no known holes anywhere on the car (other than floor pans and I am not sure if it is both sides. It is a A/C car and when i bought it three years ago it worked and blew cold. I have not used it since so I cannot say if it still does blow cold.
Tires are good, with about 50-60% tread life all around. I swapped the original rally rims for the T/A rims. You can have the rims if you want but they are not in great shape. The headliner is perfect and the glass is good although it has old tint that is not without flaws. This car is an old restoration (unsure of when, previous owner did not know either) but I would estimate around 10 years ago. The interior is very good in my opinion. The carpets are good but not installed expertly in my opinion but they look good. The seats are all in good shape and there are no rips or tears (there is one surface scratch on the rear passenger seat that looks like it's ripped but it is not). One rear seat belt needs a new buckle. The dash is in good shape, however the dash pad is badly warped and to me is the worst part of the car. That said, the interior would be very good overall if not for that one major flaw. Door panels are good but again, showing some imperfections due to qualityof the restoration and or age. Power locks don't work and it has an aftermarket stereo that is buggy and I do not use. If I kept the car, I wold take it out. It has aftermarketgauges for oil, temp and voltage that look good and work good. I have tried hard to disclose everything that would be considered the negatives. However, it is a really great car with many more positive aspects:
New batteryNew alternatorPaint is GREAT, shines really nice and is in my opinion a high quality jobEverything is intact; no real rust, dents, holes in the body, major scratches, blemishes or major flaws; you can drive this car exactly as it is and it will turn headsNo engine fluid leaks-very small drop of oil every now and again on the garage floor; as a person who hates cars that leak, it is so minor it is not even a concern...the car is over 40 years oldNew-ish brakes; done over a year ago but I drive this car less than 2K miles a year at best;New gas tankNew radiatorNew wiresCar runs great, could use a tune up, runs a little rich but nothing urgent and that's what I would do if I was keeping itOil is SUPER clean and always fullNew rear shocksExhaust is GREAT and has a really awesome note. All lights and gauges work, gas needle is jumpy as the fuellevel gets low; remote trunk is operable
I am selling this car because I found something I love more and need to make room. Of all the cars I have owned, this has given me the least amount of trouble and the most amount of joy. It has serious potential as a T/A clone and would require very little to make it into something next level. OR, you can do NOTHING and enjoy it as it is. It's a great car and needs an F-body enthusiast (I am a G-body guy) to appreciateit. Car needs to go but please be serious about your interest.
Thanks for looking.
