1988 Pontiac Fiero GT
Here's your chance to get a great deal on a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT with a manual 5 speed transmission. I originally bought this car to convert into an autocross/DE car, but have decided to go a different direction. It's originally a Texas car, so the chassis is in great shape with no abnormal rust. I bought it from the original owner a year ago. He was an avid Fiero enthusiast and kept great records - those will go with the car (including the original owner's manual). This would be an easy project car for someone looking to make a daily driver or weekend toy. I pulled the carpet and headliner because I was not going to use them and they both needed to be replaced. Likewise, I pulled the carpet out of the trunk space because the original owner had stored some used parts there and it needed to be replaced. I have all the interior trim that was removed and it will go with the car along with the original fasteners. The interior panels are in good shape and just need minor cleaning. The power windows, headlights, stereo, and instruments appear to be working except for the coolant temp (which I suspect is just a bad sensor). The seats are leather and are showing the typical age cracks from hardening. The left side of the driver's seat is damaged from entry/exit over the years.
The car has a new battery and starts easily and appears to run well with no smoke or bad noises. I've driven it around the neighborhood, but never taken it on the highway because it's not licensed or registered. The shifter works well, but the cables are a little stiff from lack of use. The muffler has a rust hole in it, so the exhaust is louder than normal. When I received the car, the sway-bar bushings were gone so I've replaced those with polyurethane bushings. The car has Koni shocks which seem a little soft, but would not have to be replaced immediately. The tires will have to be replaced. They hold air, but have age cracking that makes them unsafe for driving.
When I got the car, there was a big hole cut in the deck lid because the rear latch would not release. I replaced the deck lid from a donor car. The hood has been modified with vents to allow heat to escape from the radiator. I traded a guy the stock hood for this one. The addition of the vents makes the hood a little fragile for my taste (so I'm very careful with it) - I planned on adding some reinforcement underneath to make it more rigid but didn't get that far. I had some minor dings in the hood and deck lid fixed professionally and had them sprayed with flat black primer (I kind of like the contrast with the red). In any case, they're ready to paint when you do the rest of the car. I also replace the left front fender with a part from a donor car. I did not get a chance to paint it yet. The existing paint has some issues. It is peeling up around the sunroof and has some spiral-cracks on the soft parts of the front and rear bumper covers. I tried to take a picture, but the cracks don't show well enough to add to the listing.
I hate to let it go, but I need the $$$ for another project. Please send me a message if you have any questions. Also, please review the listing and ask any questions prior to bidding because the sale is final. It's available for inspection if you contact me. Since the car's not currently drive-able you'll need to pick it up with a trailer or arrange shipping. I have a car trailer and would be willing to deliver it to you within about 150 miles from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area if you prearrange it with me.
