1971 Cuda Restomod Hellephant 426
1971 Plymouth Barracuda
The holy grail of 1970’s muscle cars, the 1971 Cuda, has been mated with the ultimate crate engine, the Hellephant, a supercharged 426 HEMI! Loving named Elee, in a nod to her body style and engine, this spectacular match has been packaged with modern performance mechanics and amenities in an incredible example of what a resto mod is supposed to be. The builder- Great Lakes Muscle Cars- has been creating automobile works of art for over 20 years, but the only way to get your hands on one was to commission a car directly…until now.
The rotisserie restoration started with a frame stiffening kit from US Car Tool that included frame ties, front upper bar tie in, and a radiator core support, all designed to keep the car from twisting from all the power generated from the massive Hellephant engine. Eiger Gray paint covers a thousand man-hours of metal work that includes: full mini tubs, smoothed firewall, inner fenders and taillight panel, shaved door handles, marker lights, moldings and drip rail, custom frenched rear exhaust pan and tucked and shorted bumpers by Tommy Chryco. The Auto City custom glass is flush mounted. Even the hood and deck lid hinges are upgraded from Ring Brothers. The Octane Lighting HID headlamps light up the road while adding to the aggressive appearance of this monster. The bodywork and craftsmanship are second to none. The stance is completed by wrapping 325/30/20 Michelon Pilot Sports around custom one off 2-piece rims from Boze.
The Hellephant power plant is the most powerful crate engine ever made. It takes the iconic 426 ci displacement and mates it with a 3.0L supercharger to create 1,100 HP and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. This engine is number #34 of the 125 that were produced by Mopar. The engines went on sale on April 25, 2019 and orders closed within 48 hours. If you weren’t one of the lucky 125, this is your chance to own one.
All that power is mated to Tremec 6 speed with custom bellhousing engineered to accommodate 1500 HP. The shorted 8 ¾ with 4.10 gears get power to the rear wheels, with a dash 10 fuel hose to feed the beast. 2-inch TTI headers and 3-inch exhaust tubing carry all those burn fumes out the rear (if you have the QTP exhaust cutouts closed)!
Outstanding ride comfort is made possible by using a Riley Motorsports AlterKtion suspension with Ride Tek 2-way adjustable coils overs in both the front and rear 4 link system. Rack and pinion steering (with tilt column) complete the modern driving experience. Wilwood 6-piston calipers on 15-inch rotors ensure you can stop on a dime.
The modern feel is completed with an elegant interior. The custom Catastrophe Red leather interior wraps the dash, seats and door panels with black suede inserts. An all-black suede headliner completes the luxurious look. Dakota Digital gages don the instrument cluster as the Silver Sport Pistol Grip shifter connects you to all that power. The seats are 12-way power adjustable to maximize your driving position. And, in case you don’t want to hear exhaust thunder or supercharger whine, she is equipped with a Rockford Fosgate audio system with Kenwood Bluetooth radio.
