Original Rust-Free California Car
1969 Plymouth Road Runner
1969 PLYMOUTH ROAD RUNNER Up for sale is this perfect example of a 1969 Road Runner. This car was built on May 27th 1969 at the Los Angeles Plant. It was a special order and was sold to a couple in Huntington Beach, CA. This highly optioned two-door hardtop was ordered with bucket seats, lighting package, center console, air conditioning, hood/fender turn lamps, tachometer, AM/FM Radio, drip rail moldings and a 26" radiator. This vehicle spent most of it's life garaged in HB then was sold to a gentleman in Glendora. He had intentions of bringing her back to life but never had the time. I purchased the vehicle from him making me the third owner in 2005. The vehicle was completely taken down to the body, which revealed a completely rust-free California car and no signs of ever being in a collision. It was painted with paint code "K2 Vitamin C" in a professional paint booth using the highest end paint supplies/brands. During the reconstruction of the vehicle everything was meticulously detailed and restored back to factory standards. Any parts needing replacement were replaced with NOS items with very few reproductive pieces. The 440 HP block was professionally rebuilt to factory specs by one of the most reputable builders in Southern California. All items were replaced with date code correct pieces in the engine compartment and throughout the entire car. The motor has about 3K miles; it runs very smooth and is very responsive just as it did from the factory. The 727 was rebuilt by another local Southern California Mopar transmission guru known for his expertise and catering to build to your exact specifications. The brakes are all new, disc's on the front and drums on the rear with the Bendix booster this Road Runner has no problem stopping like a newer vehicle. The tires were just placed last month with new one's due to age. The Air Conditioning works perfect and blows ICE cold. It is an original R12 system with an NOS compressor. Everything on the vehicle works like the day it left the factory. It's a turnkey car that is reliable enough to be a daily driver; I have never had one issue with this car since it's been re-built. I just love driving it and hear the exhaust rumble while every one you pass gives you a thumbs up. I'm regretfully selling it for financial reasons, which kills me. I am a very meticulous and picky individual when it comes to vehicles, I can assure you this is one of the cleanest original rust-free Road Runners you will find. Hello Kurt, thank you for the questions. Let me answer to the best of my ability. My father has been a mechanic for over 60 years. He was an aircraft mechanic and later had auto repair facilities throughout his life. He has always had a strong passion for late 60 early 70's Mopar's and restored them as a hobby for his own pleasure as a past time. My father has always been an E-Body enthusiast and I prefer B- Bodies. In 2005 we decided to refurbish this Road Runner because the last we did was an E-Body. So, the body was taken down to a bare shell in our shop, the body (including the undercarriage), doors, hood, deck lid, inner wheel wells, seat frames... basically any piece that was going to be re-painted was soda blasted and then cleaned and sealed with epoxy primer. The body had no damage and no rust so it was just a matter of blocking and finessing until it was perfectly straight. Once all the body was ready for paint, a friend of mine that owns a professional collision repair shop shot the paint in his booth.
The 383 engine that was in the car upon purchase was a non-numbers matching block. We located a running late 68' 440HP block and decided to build that for the car in place of the 383. The machine work was performed by Dougan's Machine Shop in Riverside CA. My father did the final assembly after the machine work and balancing was complete. I consider my father the best mechanic I've ever known, he built Mopar engines no different than building an aircraft engine so I can assure you the tolerances and clearances are as perfect as they could possibly be. I believe the motor ended up 30 over, he used a Mopar purple cam and basically built it as a stock 440-6 motor. I have all the specs at home I can post if you're interested.
The trans is a number matching 727, a gentleman in San Jacinto built it by the name of BruceLagerfelt(last name may be off) he builds all the transmissions forMazzoliniRacing and that's what he sells at his shop. I have all the spec sheets on that as well. It does have a mild shift kit and shifts extremely well.
To sum this all up, nothing on this car was left unnoticed or untouched. The car was a near survivor to begin with, aside from the motor it was all original, never butchered or hot rodded. My dad has a lot of connections for NOS parts so many of the items that did need replacement, NOS items were used. My father and I reassembled and refurnished the entire car in our shop. The entire build took over 2 years to complete. The car is mechanically and cosmetically flawless like I mentioned before. Everything works like the day it left the factory.
