BACKGROUND: Long-time police vehicle enthusiast started project to re-create 1972 Plymouth NYPD (New York Police Department) Emergency Service wagon.Established contacts with NYPD helped to guide the painstaking process of tracking down as many vehicle and period-correct accessories as possible. The result is a stunning “time capsule” of what the streets of New York saw in 1972 when police-led emergency service was needed. At shows, NYPD personnel have remarked that this car is SO NICE, that they didn’t remember the ones in 1972 as looking this good! Fabulous general interest show car – anywhere it goes. You could drive a Rolls-Royce and receive less attention on the streets and highways!Brings back memories and elicits smiles and “thumbs up” wherever it goes. - Work began on a very solid 1972 Plymouth wagon found in Arizona (vehicle also apparently spent some time in Washington state).Just about everything under the hood (other than engine block and AC compressor) was replaced to ensure good driveability.Air blows cold too!The paint-finish is mirror-like throughout and worthy of a high-end classic show car.Tremendous novelty and wide appeal.
- Contracted re-production of this car would easily top $50,000.Much of the period-correct equipment is very hard to find – and costly. The Signal-Stat model 377 flasher (sometimes generically nicknamed a “gumball machine”) of the 1972 era is so rare in itself that it became the inspiration for this car’s re-creation!
- Have you ever been “clocked” by a patrol car and wondered where that term came from? When the police determine your speed, it’s often expressed as being “clocked” at X-MPH.The “clocked” terminology is familia, but few people know where the term originated. This car explains why…because the large “clock-like” instrument mounted to the right of the driver was used to determine follow speed…and a push of the button would lock-in that figure, and thus the speeder was “clocked”!Now you know!
EXCELLENT INVESTMENT - the best cars of the 1950s and 1960s have been Blue Chip investments for decades, and will continue to be. Now, the best and most interesting vehicles of the 1970s are finally coming into focus and are appreciating handsomely. The respect and interest that the public has in police work and their tools of the trade are timeless and will be a driving force for this car’s bright future as a collectible classic.
