So you've undoubtedly checked out the photos of this incredible Plymouth PF. And you've probably formed a few thoughts and opinions. Indeed, he car is a VERY intense custom that was built to turn heads. And yes, he car IS capable of hitting the drag strip and knocking down some very impressive numbers. HOWEVER, his clean coupe isn't just some whipped drag car that's been wrapped in pretty paint. It's a bona fide show stopper that, hile it has enjoyed a few jaunts down the quarter, an easily be driven on the street.
Backing 472 cubic inches of Hemi with a whole roster of equipment that makes it safe, ppealing and practical, his custom is REAL serious about fulfilling its big promises. NHRA certified to 7.50 seconds as of 2011, t's an actual '34 Plymouth that, ver the past three years, as claimed many national awards. And the best part is, ven with its race-worthy mechanicals, ou can fill the car with 112 octane and parade it up and down the strip! If you're the kind of purist who wants a classic that poses well for judges AND kicks asphalt in the quarter, heck out this 'inFLAMEous' MoPar!
BODYWORK/TRIM
When you set your sights on creating something legit and truly unique, ou just can't go wrong starting with vintage Detroit steel. Thankfully, he folks at Impatient Creations of Alabaster, labama certainly know how to massage attractive factory fodder into an immaculate, orld-class custom. Strung into a stretched street rod in the late '90s, his Plymouth really didn't hit its stride until under the care of its current owner. With the help of Impatient Creations, 150K worth of build money and a documented $68K in parts, he car was transformed from a cool project into a national headliner. A big reason for that headlining status is a largely original profile that was bathed in Chrysler Intense Blue Pearlcoat, icked with brilliant flames, etailed with airbrushed shadows and stamped with seven era-specific MoPar logos. Naturally, ll of those aesthetics were sealed in a thick layer of clear and buffed to a wet-looking shine. And in the Spring of 2014, his coupe hit the scene as a dreamy pavement pounder that's poised to claim trophies and sure to turn heads.
Thanks to an acute attention to detail, his show queen puts the "class" in classic. At the front of the car, fiberglass grille shell hangs a hand-assembled, lymouth-branded grille between Headwinds billet, ual-mode headlamps. At the top of the car, filled, no chop' top hangs Lexan windows behind massaged drip rails, filled cowl panel and a polished Mighty Wiper. At the sides of the car, actory suicide doors snag 2-stage bear claw latches between shaved handles, re-angled firewall and radiused wheel openings. And at the back of the car, fiberglass decklid shades a Stroud chute, olished LED taillights, Master Battery Disconnect and monochromatic chromoly wheelie bars.
ENGINE
Gaze in to this PF's polished and painted engine bay and you'll find 472 cubic inches of Hemi big block that, espite being currently tuned for mild 9 to 1 compression, s capable of busting healthy 12 to 1 compression into roughly 650 horsepower. Back when this Plymouth was certified for competition, irca 2011, t torched the quarter in 9.1 seconds at 143MPH! But since its street-friendly overhaul, erformed in early 2015 by the folks at Howton's Automotive of Hueytown, labama, he car's 5-gallon fuel cell and beefy cooling system permit roughly 50 miles of road time or 30 minutes in traffic. The foundation for that performance is a 2005 Chrysler iron block that's filled with a forged MoPar crank, agle H-beam connecting rods, orged JE pistons and a Comp roller cam. Those components spin thanks to Hilborn mechanical fuel injection, hich breathes through eight polished and screened stacks. At the sides of those stacks, eith Black Hemi Fuel heads hide slick Indy roller rockers under polished valve covers and polished breathers. At the front of those breathers, n MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences spark between an MSD Pro Power HVC coil, SD 7AL ignition and MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Under those wires, oated and baffled Dan Olsen zoomies look almost as cool as they sound. In front of those pipes, 5-gallon fuel cell feeds a Hilborn mechanical pump, hich rides between an ATI Super Damper, Milodon gear drive, ilodon oil components and a Meziere electric water pump. And that pump feeds a big Griffin radiator that's hung between a polished expansion tank and brisk electric pusher fan. While this engine's main purpose is to go straight at a very high rate of speed, t's still reliable and very impressive to look at. And items like braided fluid lines, polished alternator, RP bolts and Milodon studs ensure the 200 miles traveled since the mill's freshening are merely the beginning of a carefree ownership experience.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
The car's full tube chassis, abricated by Jeffers Pro Cars of House Springs, issouri, tretches a combination of chromoly and mild steel over a 125-inch wheelbase. Up front, custom 4-bar suspension marries a 6-inch dropped tube 'suicide' axle with a transverse spring and polished PRO Shocks. Out back, Chassisworks 4-link mixes AVO coil-overs with a full range of adjustment. That back-halved rear-clip rolls on a narrowed, raced and powder-coated Moser 9-inch, hich twists Richmond 4.56 gears between Moser 40-spline axles. That rear end spins thanks to a Drive Shafts Unlimited driveshaft, hich threads a tough Chrysler A727 TorqueFlite that was built by A&A Transmissions of Camby, ndiana. That massaged gearbox mixes a hardened main shaft, steel pump gear, n Ultimate Sprag and an A&A transbrake with a 9-inch, 500 RPM Lupo's Dynamic stall converter. Big Wilwood calipers clamp a combination of drilled and vented rotors, he front of which are 12-inch units attached to one-off, ustom-fabricated hubs. Power meets the pavement through polished Real Rodder meats, hich jerk 33x22.50-15 Hoosier Quick Time Pros. Turns come courtesy of Stiletto steering, hich angles spindle-mount Radirs and DOT-rated 5.0/26.0-18 M&H Racemasters. And everything, rom this Plymouth's MoPar master cylinder to its Perma-Cool transmission cooler, s clean, etailed and ready to go.
INTERIOR
Inside this coupe you'll find an all-business interior that was installed by Colonel's Custom Upholstery of Alabaster, labama. That install is framed in a 14-point Funny Car roll cage that was NHRA-certified to 7.50 seconds as of 2011. That cage cradles Jaz aluminum seats, hich are wrapped in color-keyed, oPar-themed vinyl. In front of those seats, simple dash drapes a flashy "inFLAMEous" script over clean Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry. Beneath that dash, steel floor balances plush MoPar mats between diamond plate foot pedals and a familiar B&M Pro Stick that mates a reversed shift pattern with sturdy line lock. Opposite that floor, high quality Bickle switch panel complements a small fan and stylish Hagan mirror. At the front of the cockpit, removable steering wheel laps a prominent MSD shift light while keeping the car's trans-lock within a finger's reach. At the sides of the cockpit, luminum door panels center snazzy Chrysler logos inside fully finished jambs that continue the car's custom graphics. Behind the cockpit, n aluminum-trimmed trunk hides an Optima gel cell battery. And most importantly, he driver stays safe thanks to a 5lb. fire suppression system, sturdy RJS window net and a 5-point RCI cam-lock harness.
